I liked the idea of being a kinda religious nation, even though this has changed a bit, but the name Holy Paradise just kinda sounded cool to me.

You just won an award. I'm obsessed with them... read both the Belgariad and Malloreon like, seven times. Per book. That was years ago, I kept going back to your nation thinking 'Where do I know that word from?!'

Oh, and my name is a spelling for the Celtic Goddess Morrigan, who is awesome.

I occasionally get fits of nostalgia and replay Final Fantasy VII and other old games. I started playing Nation States during one such session. The Ziedrich is a rare armor you can steal from Rude later in the game; it has exceptional defensive stats and the innate ability to halve damage from all elemental attacks, but no Materia slots.

Ziedrich was taken, so inserting "New" solved that problem.

I feel like such a damn nerd right now.

It's strange story:
When I was playing Half Life 2, I always put the subtitles on. So during the level Highway 17, I read "Ant-lion" as "Anti-lon" (my eyesight isn't the best). Later, I realized the mistake, but I kept it for future reference. So when I was making my nation, I was caught between 2 names: Antilon and Razalas (Salazar backwards).

I stole the name from the antagonist country of Ace Combat 04, plain and simple. Although Erusea was already taken, and I remember in my World History class the time when they were lecturing something about the Neo-Assyrian Empire, which is where I got the Neo- prefix part.

Sabaya be my name.

if you have ever played the Europa Barbarorum mod for Rome: Total War, then you should have seen the faction "As'Sabyn Wal Jau" in the end of turn cycle-through. The name of the peoples, or the nationalities of the country are the "Sabaeans". I tried to use that, but it was taken so i used Sabaya. if you look it up on wikipedia, it should come up with something

by Skallvia
Well, I had originally had in mind a nation situated in the Baltics, that would start with a rebellion in the Kaliningrad Oblast, and end in the unification of the three states and the oblast...

and an ancient nation there was called "Skalvia" and that was my nation's original name...

But, then i got banned, apparently Lolcats about Suicide are frowned upon, lol...

So, When I remade my nation with a second 'l' becoming "Skallvia", I decided to just scrap the whole thing and go with a Celtic/Nordic theme as expressed in the wiki in my sig, lol...

by Hryvatia
Etymology

The modern term Hryvatia is believed to be descended from the old Slavic riviči, meaning fishermen; a reference to the early Illyrian and later Slavic tribes that settled along the sealife rich coasts. The territories of the tribes later became known to the first Doomani missionaries as Rivatia; a literal mistranslation mistaking the voiceless postalveolar affricate consonant [tʃ] for a more common Latin ending. As latinisation continued the name developed a distinctive Slavic voiceless velar fricative [x] at its beginning, and by the 8th century the phonetically spelt Hryvácija became the most widespread variant translated into the Latin alphabet.

The modern English Hryvatia can be understood as a literal although mispronounced identification of Hryv-, accompanied by the more linguistically compatible Latin -atia.

At least that's the in-character explanation. Originally I just took the Croatian for Croatia; Hrvatska, and added the anglophone -atia on the end anyway. This all came about after a three-week trip I took to Croatia where I completely fell in love with the place, and have since planned to returned there to study my Postgraduate in a couple of years.

by Sigma Dome
Way back when I made this nation, I was in the middle of a short story/world building exercise where Sigma Dome, one of a series of arcologies originally intended for space colonization but used on Earth due to a Class 1.5-ish After The End scenario, was the primary location for what I did get around to writing.

This is the Exiled Fleet of Sigma Dome due to events that transpired in my region's forums years ago (i.e. before my 2-ish years leave of absence; thanks for not deleting Sigma Dome :D) - we had a forum wargame going with nation control and all, and my own planets were conquered, forcing these colony ships to launch and escape to empty space before their destruction. I'm not entirely certain anyone in the UFoP even remembers all that, but I still have most of the maps saved ;)
