How dare anyone force major institutions to comply with the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It's discrimination against something.

Like those handicap signs. They're affirmative action that discriminates against the non-disabled people.

any positive support that opposes any prejudice, not just racial or religious, is a very good thing.
nor has its roll expired as long as there is a politics or economics that feeds prejudice of any kind.
truth isn't what i say. isn't what you say. isn't what anybody says. truth is what is there, when no one is saying anything.

No time at all. I haven't had the benefit of law school or seminary school to teach my how to hide basic truths behind walls of bullshit.

See? Two sentences.

What is so odd about that scene is that it's so discongrous for the rest of the film. Yes, it's not exactly a "cheery" film, what with children being exploded, shrunk, pushed into spinning blades, creepy old men stalking about, but what makes that scene so iconic is how it pushes past even the borderline creepiness of that film into a whole other level of drug induced nightmare.

It's like the entire cast and crew showed up to work one day tripping balls and decided "OK, let's do this shit".

Actually, it WAS 1971....

The interesting question is how will the Court decide Fisher v. University of Texas.

Oops, we've slipped back to two sentences. Although, as for "haven't had the benefit of law school" well...clearly. Though it is telling how you consider three whole sentences to be a "wall".

Frankly, it barely qualifies as a low cut hedge.

I like Affirmative Action. And I'm a white male.

Why, I hear you ask?

Because I know what culture does. I know how pervasive it is. I know how stupid it is. And Afirmattive Action combats that cultural mentality, from corporate culture, to college culture. And to those of you complaining that it's unfair and discrimitory... get over it. Even if the employment or the enrollment system isn't a meritocracy... guess what? Colleges and jobs tend to be, especially at the higher levels (where the most discrimination tends to occur). So if they didn't deserve to get into MIT... don't worry, they'll flunk out. If they didn't deserve that high-paying, high-stress job? They'll be let go.

So don't worry about it.
This Debate is simply an exercise in Rhetoric. Truth is a fickle being with no intentions of showing itself today.

That's...um...that's not how those words work.

Anyway, to make this little tête-à-tête actually somewhat topical, and not just a continual embarassment for you, I will say, even if I swung that way, there isn't enough affirmative action in the world to make me consider it. Sorry to let ya down. It's just never gonna happen between us.

Affirmative action itself is discrimination.

It's hypocrisy. I would rather all poor people be helped equally rather than just some people.

Oh well, at least I'll be part of the minority by 2050 so I'll get some benefits.

I should hope - but not a lively hope - that the Court will rule that there is only one single entry-road permissible: a top10%, or top15% percent method. Scholastic aptitude taken as the ONLY permissible criterion and all other permanently declared illegal.

Except it's, you know....not.

I mean, ok, I suppose, in the realm of college acceptance, it is "discrimination" in the sense of "we only take people who have good grades and SAT scores" is discrimination. But for some reason, nobody seems to wave the banner of Johnny C- who didn't get into Harvard.
