That's also completely not what that part of the Pledge even means, but whatever.
And I don't even say the Under god part.

Seems weird to take a pledge to my British eyes.

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Its not THE one nation.
Its one nation.
Its very unexceptional.

Funny thing is, there's absolutely no real history or prestige to the pledge. It was invented by the Boy Scouts in 1920 or so.
It's not like Jefferson got done finishing the Declaration and decided to write a loyalty pledge just to pass the time. It's totally mundane.

It shouldn't be a requirement, or even encouraged.

Because us foreigners aren't born free, right?

We suffer and struggle under the heavy hand of despotism and tyranny.

Pull one of the other ones, it's got bells on.

I must've gotten the date mixed up with the 1923 modifications.

I don't know, I'm no lawyer nor am I an expert on the constitution.

However, perhaps more conspicuously, I have never had to give a pledge to my nation nor would it be expected of me unless I were to join the armed forces.

Really, you couldn't even get the pledge of allegiance right? Oh, and the "under god" part was only added in 1953 to "stick it to the commies."

God is never off topic when The United States of America is being discussed. Just as Jupiter is always relevant to Rome.

The US isn't a theocracy nor was it founded by a deity, so yes, it is off topic.
