The Reasonable wrote:I rarely see conservatives on NSG, and often they're radical ideologues that would make the Tea Party proud. And as for the left-wingers, they also sound quite extreme- many of them are social democrats if not outright socialists. This is reflected in the country classification distributions to some extent, but even more so when I participate in debates- most of the time I end up getting attacked from both sides. What draws the left wing to NSG? Is it because most NSGers are teenagers? Or is there some other reason?

Which makes Obama and all of America right wing, and that is an observable fact.
Maoist? Now there are some reaL leftists.

Also yes, NS has a younger demographic, and teenagers tend to be more liberal than the overall population.

Social Democrats are often centre-right, but are considered to be on the left by the more ignorant less-political branch of Europeans.
Obama and all of America is right-wing, to the right of most European governments.
I'm a left-communist, ultra-leftist and a somewhat militarist person. Am I a real leftist? Maoists are in the centre of the left square, Left Communists are in the far-left.

Thank you for providing parameters.

You're welcome. The whole Maoist/Stalinist stuff is still confusing to me, and I don't actually know where they are in the compass, but due to state intervention rather than industrial democracy, I assume Maoism is not far-left.
Maoism and most forms of Marxism-Leninism are pretty much too batshit insane to qualify for any position on the political left/right paradigm.

By "Liberal" do you mean the actual Liberal, capitalist, free market stuff or "Socialist", industrial democracy, etc? Liberals are NOT left. I'm a leftist and I can't stand Liberals in social or political life. Don't know why. Most of my friends are either Communists, Socialists, Conservatives, Corporatists or Black Nationalists(Yes, indeed), but none of them are liberal. Just can't stand the "Free world! Peace! Love!" shit.

That's quite wrong, at least here in Finland. Most are either right-wing Liberals(National Coalition/Social Democratic Party) or plain Nationalists shits(True Finns Party). Only a few of us are actually left, and this is Finland. I can bet that the youth of America is about half as left as we are.

Perhaps. Since when is the social democrat a rightist, though? He can certainly be a right-leaning centrist, but most commonly, I find social democrats to be on the left. Anecdotal, obviously, so it's not evidence of anything.

Best post I've seen on NS since I've been here.

And this is why I asked the question. It all depends on the environment. My school is overwhelmingly left-wing (but not nearly as much as around here), but the outside (the American South- I live in Georgia) is reactionary right-wing. I'm considered moderate to somewhat conservative at school and a downright socialist on the outside. It just so happens that there doesn't seem to be as many Americans here as I would have thought, and most of the Europeans, Australians, Canadians, etc on this site are extreme to a liberal American such as myself.

I'm going to have to say that our experiences differ. Round here, the Inauguration of the latest President of the United States was the cause of jokes like "Can we really call it the White House, now there's a nigger in it?". And other equally classy witticism.

So? I've seen too many Southerners constantly bring up this whole overblown "Southern hospitality" thing as if it's somehow a counterargument when people point out its terrible history, and the fact that a lot of times it still comes across to many people as, like, epitomising everything wrong with the USA.
I'll bet Minnesotans are even more polite, and they usually don't bother reminding people of that. I don't know what the fact that you have to remind people that the South has polite people says - either the South's perception is still so horrible you have to remind people it's not basically a theocracy waiting to happen, or you're accidentally implying that people being polite is somehow out of the ordinary in the South.
