Calling All Villains!

Postby Slimenia » Tue Sep 04, 2012 11:00 pm

I went to go see the new Batman movie and it got me thinking, what is the greatest villain that you guys have ever heard of in fiction (i.e. books, movies, stories, etc.)?

Joker. I love the Joker. Mindless Chaos. He's not out to rule the World, he's in it for the lulz. I find villains with tedious back stories as to why they are evil, too overdrawn. The Joker is simple and he is funny.

I liked Valkyrie from Airboy quite a bit, personally.

Edit: I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Airboy isn't well-known, so here's a link.

"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

For Batman villainesses? Talia, all the way.

As for greatest villain of ALL TIME? That's a pretty heavy question.
Darth Vader was pretty good.
For the classics, Macbeth was a great villain, of the very tragic, deluded style.

I still see him as a villain, though. He may have been jerked around by his wife, but he did betray and murder his lord, Banquo, and MacDuff's family (and would've killed his friend's young son), simply to get and maintain his power (and in MacDuff's family's case, he seems to order it based on sheer bloody-mindedness, if I recall correctly). He starts a tragic hero, but he really is a villain by the end of it.
