Is the South racist?

People in my current area and around often think of the South as a backwards region, where everyone is racist. In my experience, I met far less racists in parts of the US South I have been to than the Northern parts and the people are much more welcoming.

The majority of the south are nice people, but there's also that unfortunate reality that racist people live in the south and they're mentioned more often than those in the north, and yes, there are some.

In my high school there was a drama production of a play featuring two Latina women trashing other subsections of Latino, and accidentally make slurs about each others ethnicity ensulting in a shitfest. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of the play, but as someone who lived in South Florida? That shit happens IRL all the damn time.

As another example of "people actually think this way about their own people", I give a more accessible example: Chiuen from the Remo Williams books and movie.

Florida is a contradiction in the South. Gets more conservative (still a pretty conservative state, however) as you go north, more liberal as you go south. Don't get me wrong, there are some pockets of liberals and conservatives, but that's common across most states.

I only ever order salad from McDonalds in the US, in fear that I will end up with food poisoning; I survive the food poisoning from the salad more than I survive food poisoning through meat. But when in a foreign country (in this case this is a foreign country inside America) just point to the item, or say the number in the local language.

From what I heard the North is more racist than the South these days.

To my experience that is the case, I attend school in the northern part of Georgia and there are some people here that are racist, biggest surprise was that I found out is half of the students here are from the north, and surprisingly their the most racist in the school.
