Allergies?

Following a close call yesterday, in which I was bitten by a number of ants and risked anaphylactic shock, I've decided to make a new thread. I'm terribly allergic to the little bastards and in my drug induced delirium, it occurred to me that, while I very rarely get sick (I've never had a cold or the flu), I do seem to be violently and fatally allergic to some simple stuff. Take onions, for example. In addition to fire ants, I am allergic to onions. My stomach will twist and turn and I will vomit for hours if I ingest anything less than extremely overcooked onions.

My housekeeper is allergic to pine nuts and chocolate. She can't eat pesto or hummus, and she can't drink or eat anything with caramel coloring in it (as it is derived from chocolate). We keep an epi-pin on hand for her. Following yesterday, I think I should keep one for myself as well.

So, NSG? What are you allergic to? How badly?

Very little allergies. I've got some sort of pollen allergy in the spring that can be countered with a ton of Claritin, and I'm apparently allergic to some cats.... As of right now, I've only been allergic to three...

MSG gives me a rash on my arms at low levels and a decent amount makes my face and throat start to swell. I take care about the amount of Chinese I eat.

My seasonal allergies used to be much, much worse when I was a kid too- I was diagnosed with chronic sinusitis in first grade after missing some 40 days of the school year due to allergic reactions to dust and pollen that were severe enough to be mistaken for repeatedly catching a cold. (Although I have no proof, I personally blame the fact my parents were both smokers for aggravating the sinus situation.) Thankfully I seem to have outgrown the sinusitis and now just have relatively manageable allergy problems.

Luckily, the only allergies I have are pollen, dust and people-based, so I can eat or drink or wear anything I want. However, whenever I go places with large groups of people, ie. School, Amusement Parks or just outside on a busy day, I get terrible sneezing fits and a runny nose.

Medical people tell me that you lose some allergies only to gain others. Your body changes, but you are never truly free.

I'm not really allergic to anything, that I know of. Though something used to get off my asthma when I was younger, particularly if I went to Southern England. I also cannot eat peanut butter, even the smell makes me a bit queasy, but that is down to being sick shortly after ingesting many peanut covered mini chocolate eggs.
