Most of the sources I've read seem to contradict that percentage. For example, according to the source below, half the Jewish population of the United States doubts the existence of G-d. This, by itself, doesn't make them Atheists. After all, I am a Theist, and even I have doubts. The more important numbers relate to the ten to fifteen percent of self-proclaimed Atheists. I believe this number is slightly smaller in Israel. In short, we can conclude that while many non-religious Jews exist, perhaps somewhere between half and one third of the population, that it is at least plausible that religious Jews constitute a majority of some kind.

pew is pretty reliable, and the last one had a very broad base, i would take their numbers over mostly anybody.

So which one is it? Israel (or the Orthodox) recognizes only the latter, but it seems that the majority of the Jewish world (or the Reform) prefers the former.
