The others are jealous of our status as the chosen people? or maybe since god got so tired of us, how can man put up with us? (one of my favorite passages of the Torah is where god is bitching to moses about what a stiff necked people we are).

The biblical narriative from pre christian times is that somehow we have failed the lord and these forced removals from our home land are divine punishment. Though i understand Eli, if god can change the world and allows auschwitz, i am better off without him.
