My main issue is that I have no connection to Judaism besides my family history. I feel like an outsider, and im not sure how to reconnect.

cool, generally they will run educational classes, there should be a jewish studies co ordinator, they may be able to get you started in a less formal atmosphere than meeting with a rabbi. also they probably run social programs, and you can hang out with your people to get a sense of what does a jewish idenity mean.

Jews settled in Poland mostly through the middle ages. Poland-Lithuania was one of the best places to settle and treated Jews as they treated anyone else. There was a reason most Jews were located in Eastern Europe, they were far more tolerant and the Orthodox Church was a lot more friendly towards Jews.

Populations of Jews moved from one nation to another because they were expulsed from one location after another. This created a collection of states that Jews were tolerated in.

She (or he) said her (or his) Jewish ancestors were maternal. So, technically, she (or he) would be considered Jewish.

i never was a fan of pork chops, i will have a lobster roll instead. the point though there is more than one path to judiasm is still a valid one.
