in the sense that they are looking to antagonize and not have a meaningfull discussion of what is jewishness, absolutley.

It may take a little longer than a few days to get a response, I imagine. If they haven't contacted you in a month, I would recommend trying somewhere else. Are you Jewish or are you planning to convert?

So long as you adhere to the proper protocol, I am skeptical that you would offend anybody, though you should probably ask one of the Orthodox Jews posting in this thread what that protocol is.

I had an ancestor who converted, so Im not sure if it'd be recognized. I have a great interest in learning about the Tanach. Im not Christian, in case you are wondering.

My main issue is that I have no connection to Judaism besides my family history. I feel like an outsider, and im not sure how to reconnect.

define ancestor, if its mom, yes, but if its a couple generations, not really.
