I'd be interested in both a political and a scriptural view.

Zionism? It's the in-gathering of the exiles.

Messianism? Is that like the future messiah or Jesus?

Because I'm sure you know I dislike that Messianism.

Poor Sarah when God came at her:

I imagined that in invader zim's voice.

The future messiah, and I gather, the belief that we can forcibly speed up his return by doing certain things. Like getting all the jews to move to israel, sacrificing a particular breed of cow, etc.

And for an opinion, I meant, do you think scripture backs it, or does it not, and based on which passages if you have the time to indulge me, but if you don't want to do that part thats ok.
I'm curious as to whether it could be a bastardization of the texts resulting from not understanding them, a literalist interperatation, or just following it as it is meant to be interperated.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

I don't believe getting all the Jews to Israel speeds up the Messiah.... he's supposed to do that.

The cow thing is a precursor to the Messiah... like how will we know Messianic times are upon us? We see a Parah Adomah a red cow which is the only way to become pure from being Tamai Mais impure from being near a dead body.

I'm not sure about what she (or he) is asking. However, this page presents a relatively decent introduction to the issue of the legitimacy of Zionism from an Orthodox perspective.

Debated then. Thanks.
Just wondered if it was a heresy or actually mandated. Seems like there isn't a way to tell for sure.

Normally if it's a heresy it's pretty obvious.
Like the catholics simply refusing to acknowledge that they are orthodox christian heretics by conspicuously editing parts of the dogma to justify it after the fact.
The protestants is more difficult, but the anglicans are very obviously heretics in that they again, alter the document to justify their new perspective, then pretend it was always that way. Just like the catholics.

An example among the shintoists would be the imperial cult.

Basically, you can tell if they add or remove bits of the scriptures then pretend they always/never existed. If its just INTERPERATING, it's difficult to tell which is genuine, but the former is blatant.
