As a Canadian, I associate that name with a terrible politician. You sure he doesn't have a middle name, or a nick name I can I call him by?
OH! What is "Talmud"? Someone mentioned it.

Codified Oral Law? That expands upon the written law.
Let me understand this (bear with me and my usage of Christian terms). The Written Law is the Torah, and the Talmud is codified oral law. Things people said, adding onto the Torah?
...Like when Jesus talked about the Old Testament, and it was later written down or "codified"?

Not 'add' It explains the Torah and Expands upon the Torah.
Not really.....
So people explained/clarified the Torah, and someone wrote it down? What exactly does the "codified" in "codified Oral Law" mean?

But unless you have oral law, it hardly makes sense.

EDIT: Did a quick wikipedia search... still don't get it.
Also, how authoritative is it? There seems to be a split in the Jewish community about it, or at least that's the vibe I getting from wikipedia.

For Example, the Orthodox strictly follow the law, Conservatives mostly follow the law, and Liberal and Reform hardly follow the law.

This is an excellent explanation, though there are nuances that have been missed when differentiating between the various denominations of Judaism. All the same, you get a gold star, Vaz.

Oral law and Written Law were given to Moses at Mount Sinai. Written Law is Torah, Oral Law was kept Oral until it was eventually codified. Oral Law is a expansion upon, and explanation of Written Law.
Written law is awesomeBut unless you have oral law, it hardly makes sense.

Well I think that they are! Judaism is the seed of Christianity and Islam therefore wouldn't our G-d be theirs as well? Yes they've changed the laws and some even suggest that there is a new covenant which pisses me off but hey HaShem's HaShem! It doesn't matter which religion you follow, He doesn't follow human ideas.
