It's not far from Athens, where the Olympics began. It's a city with a storied history. It has never hosted an Olympics.

The Greeks and Turks don't get along very well.

Then how did they make a Euro cup bid together? (Turkey - Greece)

Turkey 2020

Postby McKannia » Wed Aug 22, 2012 7:34 pm

For people saying Madrid and Tokyo don't, Istanul is going to host it. Gamesbids.com is giving them the win over Tokyo wih Madrid a far off third, and they were right about Rio 2016 and Pyeongchang 2018 so why wouldn't they be wrong about Istanbul 2020.

Istanbul. Because I want a reason to go see the Hagia Sophia and cool Byzantine shiz. And play "Istanbul was Constantinople" on loop.

Istanbul, since Japan has already hosted the OG once; Spain has a whole lot of other problems right now and has already been a host too.

Altough I'm sure that it will lead to some farcical claims on Turkey's side, like this year's "The olympic torch should always be lightened on Turkish soil" gem.

to be honest, after the British spectacular opening ceremony, and then the Brazilian one in 2016- only another "crazy" nation (as the two before) could host it- i say Tokyo- because, while England likes to hide its crazy side behind pomp and circumstance, and Brazil has that "southern hemisphere" vibe going, japan is completely open about their craziness- i can imagine it starting with hetalia across giant television screens...
