Firstly, you seem to be splitting the stadium and the athletics facilities up. The olympic stadium is where the athletics happens. Secondly where are all the visitors going to stay? Is Buffalo big enough to handle it or are you expecting them to stay in Toronto, i.e. a couple of hours away. And that's just for starters.

Seems like a good idea for Buffalo, but not for the olympics.

Toronto, FYI, is no more really than a one hour drive away.

It's an interesting concept splitting the Olympics up that way, but I foresee all sorts of technical/border issues too...what a hassle to have to cross the border every single time if you have to compete in separate venues in separate nations, or if you're a spectator wanting to see a variety of events, again, split between two states...doesn't sound too feasible.

Sorry, I've been there. I wasn't impressed, either: no traffic laws, the ubiquitous bouquet of uric acid, exhaust fumes, and sharawma wore on me quickly.

Tokyo is, by far, the cleanest, safest big city in which I've ever lived.

Yes, but some have more bad parts than others. Istanbul has it safe parts, but I'm sure more unsafe parts. I definitely didn't feel quite comfortable in Istanbul and Bodrum compared to most other European cities.

Well you're Turkish (based off your support of Istanbul and your flag?) So of course you would feel safe, it's part of your culture.

NYC does have its sketchy parts, and it's definitely not America's safest city. Though I have to say it is much safer than Istanbul, in my opinion.

I don't think a whole team.

Odd, I felt incredibly safe in NYC - to each their own feelings, however.

Their disappearance has nothing to do with the safety of the city.

You may have heard of a phrase called, "claiming refugee status" - that is likely what many will do. They want to stay in the West to improve their lives and training.

Seriously?

I felt much safer in Istanbul than many other major international cities I've been to, particularly Western Hemisphere ones; and I've walked the length of the Theodosian land walls through some less than wealthy neighbourhoods.

Granted you specific 'European', but I feel safer in more of Istanbul than I do in much of Washington DC outside of the core tourist area.

Maybe because you were highly prejudiced and paranoid. Istanbul, Bodrum, and such cities in Turkey are the places that attract the tourists the most. The touristic arrives increase more and more every year. But if you are totally biased and don't know how to be happy there's nothing we can do about it.

Istanbul, simply because Turkey has never hosted the Olympics before.

Spain's economy is horrible, and the last thing they need is spending tens of billions for the Olympics. Besides, Spain hosted the Olympics in 1992. As for Tokyo, it's simply too large of a concrete playground in my opinion to host the games, and Japan hosted the Winter Olympics 14 years ago.

Istanbul. Turkey hasn't had it yet and it's a wonderful, cultural, historical city.

Nothing against Tokyo, but I just think Istanbul would be a better place for it.

We all have our own ways of feeling safe, I guess. To me, I never felt like I was in any danger in Washington D.C., but maybe that's because I've been there too many times to count?

Meanwhile, I've been to a lot of European cities, and it's hard to put my finger on one that I've felt really unsafe in. Berlin, Paris, Rome, Vienna, London, Zurich, Prague, Budapest, Belgrade, Copenhagen, nope. Perhaps, though, Athens? Only at night..and thats because I visited when they had those riots. Or maybe Marseilles...

Anyways, I went on a trip to Athens (and other parts of Greece) along with two weeks in Turkey, including five days in Istanbul. As I said earlier, I didn't feel very safe in Athens at night, but compared to Athens, Istanbul felt a lot more unsafe. Maybe its the completely different culture and how things are run? Or the strange looks people gave us (I didn't stroll in wearing your typical clothes that make you stick out that you're an American tourist, but still)? Don't get me wrong, some people in the city were extremely friendly, but the gut feeling I had made me feel unsafe. That, and this taxi cab driver jipped us with money. First time we've been, in some ways, robbed while traveling abroad (albeit it was the equivalent of about 50 euros.)

Prejudiced and paranoid? Except I'm not very paranoid traveling overseas, nor am I prejudiced against people in the Middle East. I found their culture inviting and friendly, and really enjoyable. But just walking around the city gave me the sense of insecurity, among other things I mentioned above. When I travel, I try to take all that is available to me, not just the tourist sites and guided tours. I like to explore on my own and such.

Maybe I'll go back in the future..but not in the next few years. I know, though, Turkey can clean up its act and make the place safe for the 2020 Olympics. They have the resources to do so.

Istanbul. Japanese Government's reluctance to apologise for its deeds on WW2(I.e.Comfort women issue),give up their ridiculous claims on Dokdo Island and keep calling the East Sea The Sea of Japan, apparently disgusts me.
Also,Istanbul's a very great city to host. It has great architecture, culture and food. In addition,it will be the first olympics to host in a Muslim country.

Remember, politics aren't supposed to play into the selection of the host city...hence Beijing's holding of 2008, despite China's how shall one say, lack-luster human rights record.

Ahahah that's what most of tourists talk about  you shouldn't be worried about that, the people you're talking about are probably artisans, they like to look people up and down, not a specific act toward tourists. We're used to that.

And that's the prejudice I was talking about. You're considering Turkey an average Middle Eastern country like many people in Europe.
