Now with this revelation, the prospect of Modly Pole Dancing at the next Mod Olympics as previously suggested might be worth it...
Then again... Fris on a pole... Not to mention me... Never mind.

I don't know much but I do know that is HIGHLY unlikely.Unless a third party can clarify the alleged derogative nature of it, the liberties of my account were violated for three days without merit.
There was a meme photo going around when Facebook switched to the Timeline layout that went along the lines of 'wah, someone has changed something on a free service I use and it's ruined my life'.. that somewhat applies here.

If you actually understood the origin of that you'd understand how it can be derogatory.
An outdated, Anglo-American patriotic song that I became familiar with watching the Roger Ramjet cartoon as a kid. You dun lucked out that it was a New Zealand mod who saw it and assumed penis reference ("doodle") - for which I was warned.

I don't care much. Anyone with a half a brain could phrase a question so it doesn't LOOK like homework, but if they had the full brain they wouldn't snip answers into their homework because their teacher can quite easily find the original here.

It's a matter of principle.
In any event, thanks for adding absolutely nothing to the conversation.

I used to run a forum that was about as active as these forums are. Speaking from personal experience, I think that instantly banning for grave digging is pointless. If somebody new wants to post new, relevant discussion materials 30 days later than the previous post (even if it's 9 years later), then there's really no reason to lock it considering the discussion is relevant and is a positive contribution.
Having said that, if it's just blatant spam then I agree, close the topic, and if it's a constant problem, warn the person or ban them.
As a general statement though I find banning people for gravedigging to be completely pointless except in a small handful of situations. It's something that I've always chalked up to laziness, even in fast-paced forums such as these. Again, speaking from experience. I completely understand that it's your decision to make; I just find black/white enforcement of any rule to be pretty much the epitome of impracticality.

If I had the motivation I'd create a thread about George Bush and his views on the Invasion of Afghanistan. I would not mention homework, school or anything vaguely connected to education ("is our children learning" would not feature). In short there would be absolutely nothing that indicates that this is my homework (due Friday, thanks for asking) and not just another random political thread. In fact, a number of people probably have done something like that.

We don't ban people for gravedigging. Hell, I think I've handed out maybe 2 warnings for it, and that was in the face of someone who simply was going to the start date of the forum and randomly bumping threads.
Honestly, you REALLY have to work at it to get something other than just a thread lock and some kind of semi-humorous comment about killing zombies.

If I were to grab twenty threads at the end of the forum and post in them all do you reckon I could get, say, a six hour ban?

Yeah, but you'd only do it to get a range of opinions and pointers to sources to use. You'd still write the thing yourself, right?
Snipping someone else's stuff and changing a few words isn't likely to work. For instance, a phrase from the post I'm replying to finds your post with Google already. I used ""In short there would be absolutely nothing that indicates that this is my homework" and it's there.

Probably a warning and boilerplate Voice of Mod telegram with an explanation and link to the rules, and then a 1-day ban if the behavior continued.

In my case, yes. However, I'm not some dishonest student and it would also weaken my case (I've actually posted an assessment on Arts and Fiction before so if some moderator, for NCEA, decided to check its authenticity in some random test more than a year later I'd have some funny questions) were I to do anything dodgy.
However, some dihonest student probably would. And besides, very few posters use sources. One would have to hang around long enough to get an argument going.
