Teddy Bears Cause International Diplomatic Crisis

Postby Charlotte Ryberg » Thu Aug 09, 2012 2:48 am

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-19191667

BBC News wrote:The EU is to hold urgent talks on Friday over the diplomatic row between Belarus and Sweden, which followed a political stunt involving teddy bears.

Belarus effectively expelled Swedish diplomats after a Swedish PR firm parachuted toy bears bearing pro-democracy messages over its territory.

Sweden responded by taking action against diplomats from Belarus, one of Europe's most authoritarian states.

It is thought that new EU sanctions may be discussed in Brussels on Friday.

The serious line is that both the EU and Sweden are taking a hard line on Belarus after it expelled Swedish diplomats. Their patience is running thin for Belarus Government to swiftly release and rehabilitate all political prisoners. Because of the bears, they are probably talking of more sanctions on Friday.

Well, what are we supposed to say?

"Go, Sweden!" or something? What's the debate? Whether or not Lukashenko is a terrible human being who should rot in a prison somewhere for the rest of his life?

You fool, we're not supposed to say anything, we're suposed to pun the hell out of this thread with bear jokes until the Mods shut it down, we have limited time, we must get started!!

Or I wouldn't be able to.. wait for it.. bear the lost opportunity.

In a message to Mr Bildt on Twitter, UK Foreign Secretary William Hague said: "Sweden can be proud of its role championing human rights in Belarus."

Long gone are the days of diplomatic cables - these days it's done by Twitter.

I'm waiting for the news report that says "Hu Jintao has posted on Barack Obama's Facebook page with a note declaring war on the USA."

It's quite unbearable, isn't it? The desperate clawing to write off a pun and pandaring to the masses.

The intent of this thread is to discuss the overall situation in Belarus and how the President of Belarus has tried to suppress freedom of speech, sometimes in a bizarre way...

Like this. Seriously?

I bearly believe you said that. Besides, he would not have to declare war, merely institute a proceding in federal bankruptcy court for the US's impending default, he would go for the nations toliet bowls, and we would all have to shit in the woods.
The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion … but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.

The most fundamental problem of politics is not the control of wickedness but the limitation of righteousness.
