An pundit on Fox News attacked gymnast Gabby Douglas for donning a pink leotard as opposed to the good ol' stars and stripes. Yeah, what the hell is wrong with her? I mean, I thought she was from Svalbard. According to him, this is indicative of the "soft anti-Americanism" that is prevalent in modern society.

Uhh...are Fox News commentators even serious? What the hell?

It's truly amazing that so many Americans would watch Fox more than any other news network. Do they tune in for laughs? Oh wait, I know. Go to Youtube, type in "Fox News" and look at the suggestions. Quality legs/boobs, er, uh, journalism.

If "an pundit" on MSNBC said something equally idiotic would you conflate that pundit with the entire network too?

Did your momma ever let you off the hook for shit you did if you could come up with some sort of hypothetical thing someone else might have done?

It sure seems like it...

Well, at least with swimmers the 'dick measuring' contests are easier to hash out, given the nature of the uniform...

I heard about this when it was shown on the Daily Show.

It's rediculous.

If the US went to war tomorrow and they started the draft, I would volunteer and fight. But don't expect me to have the US flag tattooed all over my ass. :p

Fox has decided there is money in targeting the absolute extremes of the right wing, and it appears to be working for them.

I hesitate to believe that any of them believes the shit they sell.

The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, fireman, policeman and members of patriotic organizations.

The title should read "Fox News Criticizes Gabby Douglas for adhering to flag etiquette in showing respect to US Flag", or "Fox News Backs Athletes Disrespecting US Flag"

The flag code is clearly unpatriotic and communistic.

Also, you know what? It's not exactly an even comparison is it? Your cruddy little municipal swim team vs a young woman who is exceptionally talented and determined. I think she deserves a bit of leeway and freedom from the opinion of a handful of swimmers who probably will never see a D3 scholarship let alone a professional swimming contract or an Olympic pool, don't you?

Late at night after most of a long week, "flag themed" seemed like the right phrase, but what I meant is, in the case of the US, just red white, AND/OR blue, AND/OR stars and stripes.

Obviously it's not about my team's traditions. I was just drawing from personal experience. :palm:

I do not doubt the talent and determination of Douglas-I was/am just as supportive of her as you were. But, I guess I can't be supportive, because compared to her, my opinion doesn't matter-didn't think through this one, did ya? About those scholarships and contracts-well...whether you believe it or not, we've had swimmers go to the Olympic trials and Olympics. Your blind, unfounded, and quite frankly hilarious rage against me and my team is underscored when one realizes that Olympic sized pools are wide spread, and in fact, I just spent 3 hours in one today.

Tell me, though, do you get regular, strenuous physical exercise, do you have a D3, higher, or professional contract, and do you see, let alone use an Olympic sized pool?

I'm pretty sure where he has had to swim is much larger than an olympic sized pool.

Yes of course...... it's also well known that Fox News and the ITG's in here hate the opinions of us unpatriotic US military veterans like Dyakovo, Northern Dominus and myself.

Why don't soldiers wear flag pins? Exactly, because they hate America. ;)

You were comparing apples to citroens, hence why you got lambasted. Your traditions don't apply in this case because they're not olympic tradition, and the fact that you weren't able to produce a credible shred of evidnce that displayed that uber-patriotic leotards were the norm for the American Olympic gymnast teams lend further evidence that you applied your own experience rather than actually do any research.

And good for you, some of your teammates made it to the Olympics, congratulations to them. I too swam competitively for several years, I believe my olympic-length time for the 100 butterfly was somewhere around 57.5. Long story short I know what swimming involves, no I dont have a professional contract, I was offered partial scholarships to smaller colleges but since they weren't full and I didn't want to burden my parents when I didn't have a direction out of high school I enlisted in the Coast Guard where it turns out my swim times were fast enough to qualify for the most extreme kind of swimming of all: Aviation Survival Technician, that's Rescue Swimmer to everyone who isn't a Coastie.

And in any event the point isn't about who can whip it out and swing harder, the point is that a propaganda machine decided to lambast Gabby Douglas because it probably was a slow news day and the catty blonde cloned female newsreaders felt miffed that somebody more talented than all of them combined was getting attention. The whole "team uniform" noise is a cover for Fox's continuing media war on minorities, especially when they're, gasp, representing our nation in the best way possible.

Or to translate for you, you jumped out of helicopters and other craft into open ocean to save peoples lives, many times in harsh conditions. Which really shows your level of care about how fast someone claims they can swim in a (in effect) wading pool.

Uh, full disclosure, I never was an AST. My swims in basic were well above the qualification standard but my marksmanship scores were in the top 1%, so essentially I was headhunted by the GM program with more money.

That being said I still swam regularly even after graduating and getting my first post and on a couple of open-water swims with an AST friend of mine he remarked that I should have gone to AST school.

"Americans can't show their exceptionalism."
See it's this sort of attitude that makes people not like America and Americans.

Crap, if only I had known, I would have painted a little flag on every bullet before deploying, maybe that would have made up for it.
