Well, I don't care for it. It's a cheap shot. And there is no continent called "America." There's one called "South America" and another called "North America." The internationally accepted demonym for citizens of the United States is "American." No other country uses it. And yes, I'm in a bad mood.

Practicality. That "Hey, we're all Americans" thing wasn't funny the first time I heard it. U.S. citizens call themselves Americans, so I might call them the way they call themselves.

Oddly enough, the criticism seems to have come from black women. What I can glean is that some people thought her hair was not "natural" enough. I admit I didn't read all the pages that turned up on the Google page Tekania linked, but that is my impression.
