Today is truly a historic day for science and for NASA. At the time of writing, 12:44 AM CST, the Mars Rover CURIOSITY has touched down successfully on the surface of the Red Planet and has transmitted its first image, a 64x64 "thumbnail" taken by the rear camera.

Utterly fascinated by the amount of engineering and physics know-how that went into the landing. Science is truly amazing.
