I'm just going to say this now and get it out of the way: Mods, Admins, and Mentors are not out to get you. There is no conspiracy. They're not going to waste their time and energy on one insignificant human being who's feeling sorry for themself. The world ain't out to get you; you're just paranoid.

But if he hated gays, he'd stop being one.

If there is sufficient self-loathing, he will "stop being one" in the only way possible: suicide. This is what Christians tend to push their gay kids towards, not necessarily intentionally, but all too often.

This issue started with the Chief Operating Officer, Dan Cathy admitting to being "guilty as charged" when it comes to supporting traditional marriage. From there we've witnessed it erupt into a media firestorm.

The issue started many years ago, over the company's rampantly discriminatory policies (not only against gays but against anyone who does not fit in with their particular religious views). It started attracting public attention after Cathy's attempt to characterize the dispute as only about the marriage issue, an effort to distract from the core of what is going on; and escalated with Huckabee's political grandstanding. The initial spark was the Muppets deciding to end any further promotions with them, after becoming informed of Chick-Fil-A's multi-million-dollar donations to extremist organizations, which lobby against nondiscrimination laws of any kind (not just marriage equality), lobby overseas for criminal punishments for us (including capital punishment), and operate camps where gay kids are abused (physically as well as psychologically).

Ah, so that's why gay marriage currently is legalized nationwide in the US.

MY understanding is the vote no on prop 8 fund was better funded.

If money bought elections I think No would have won.

I'm not saying that money automatically buys elections, but I don't think you believe money doesn't matter at all either.

However, when it came to prop 8 the campaigns didn't really fight the same battle. No on 8 was about allowing gay people to get married. Yes on 8 was about protecting the children.

Small wonder Yes on 8 won.

Edit: Mixed up yes and no.

Yes was for blocking gay marriage, and no was for not overturning the California Supreme court.

Either way, I went to Chick Fil-A day.

It was delicious, and the lines extended out onto the highway. Quite incredible.

The food at Chick Fil-A is fantastic, so I'm slightly confused as to what you mean.

On an amusing side note, I read that there was a counterprotest in a few cities. As far as I can tell, basically nobody showed up.

Actually, pretty much everyone on the highway was turning into the restaurant. The entire highway looked like a giant line.

Wasn't really dangerous.

Monozygotic twins, where one is straight and one is gay, prove one is definitively not born gay.

Because the DNA of twins is 100% identical.

Also, start by proving that there has been a pair of twins out there who have different sexual orientations.

There are several such known cases; I read an interview in Esquire with a pair who were also enantiomorphic (a not-terribly-uncommon phenomenon among identicals in which one is right-handed and has clockwise hair-whorl while the other is left-handed and counter-clockwise, and in this case also gay): the best line was when they were asked if they were often mistaken for each other and said, "It is particularly disconcerting to realize the person you are talking to thinks he or she has slept with you." However, if one identical twin is gay, the chance that the other will be is about 60%, which is far higher than is the case for fraternal (or dizygotic) twins (whose DNA is no more similar than siblings born at different times), indicating a strong genetic predisposition, not simply post-birth environmental factors (which are as similar in the case of fraternal twins as for identical twins). A genetic predisposition, however, does not translate to a 100% chance of a characteristic developing; what the other factors are, we simply do not know at present.

A Chicago politician said he will block Chick-fil-A from opening a restaurant in his ward, following anti-gay marriage remarks by the fast food chain's president.

Alderman Joe Moreno, who represents Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood, plans to use his aldermanic privilege, a Chicago tradition in which City Council members defer to aldermen on local matters, to block the restaurant's permit.

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino sent Cathy a letter informing him "There is no place for discrimination on Boston's Freedom Trail and no place for your company alongside it."

so state government is trying to block the company from opening more stores...

"They should be in the business of selling chicken, not promoting a political philosophy," he said. "If they want to come out with an anti-discrimination policy, put it in their employee handbook, post it in their restaurants…then we can have a discussion."
