European president?

Postby Kamany » Sat Jul 28, 2012 5:12 pm

In this thread I propose you to say who should be the best president for the European Union and why (it's harder...^^).
Yes, there's a current one, but consider him with the power of a prime minister or a chancelor ;)

I think Daniel-Cohn-Bendit could be a good president for the EU. Even if he's to much turbulant he's a real European (French and German), he's got experience into the European parliament(he's the leader of the green group) and he's enough independent to conduct a realist politic without corruption or ambitious member-state leader. To conclude he's perfect except for one thing, we need a calm person, and thus, Jacques Delors or Mario Monti must be good concurrents.

And you who is your favorite?

Oh dear, let's not have an EU President. I can only imagine how much whinier half of the British would get if they had a single person to blame everything on.

A mix between the president of the commission and the president of the council, a kind of head of state.

Life is a tragedy to those who feel, a comedy to those who think, and a musical to those who sing.

I am the very model of a Nation States General,
I am a holy terror to apologists Confederal,
When called upon to source a line, I give citations textual,
And argue about Palestine, and marriage homosexual!

Though I'm not European, I believe in the ideal of Western Civilization.

I would like to see the countries of Europe undo much of what they have done to integrate for the same reasons Machiavelli stated in his writings on "virtu" in The Art of War.

So Italians, Spaniards, Poles, the Dutch, the Portuguese and many more aren't Europeans?

If Britain takes such issue with the very core of what the EU is, why are they still members?

Willem Buiter. But only if he gets unchallenged executive power.

Currently, the person in charge of the most powerful wing of the European Union, the E.C. is Herman Van Rompuy. He does a good job (from what I can actually uncover) and is a perfectly acceptable person. He's theist, but seems genuinely open to the federal idea that the EU should follow; especially in the futurist sense.

Anyway I'm a fan; he's good at his job and that’s enough for me (an atheist).

P.S. ideally we would have this man as President, but he's long-dead.

The voters for the UKIP party are not all of Britain, and Nigel is speaking for his constituents, not the country. But what he was denouncing was the creation of new officialdoms with very high salaries and perks and no accountability, who trample on the weaker countries: if that is "the very core" of the EU, then it needs to die, quickly.
