Well considering the Bible, the holy book of Christianity, contains the Old and New, I'd say it's a package. Most modern Christians do ignore all the bad PR parts of the book though. Except for the part about gay marriage. THAT'S the one rule in the Old Testament that's true.

I Personally Think That Gay Marriage Doesn't Need to Be Outlawed As Its Not Hurting Anyone but Im NOT here to talk about that

No it's not. God made people in his own image, he made gays, gay. As being a homosexual is dictated by genetics and random chance.

It's just not fair to trot out WBC as an example of a Baptist church.

Where does it say in gay marriage?

"Thou shall not lie with mankind, as with womankind. It is an abomination." (Leviticus 18:22)

Also, Jesus says the Old Testament is still valid. "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." (Matthew 5:17)

You're preaching to the choir here. I'm for gay marriage. But it is true that the Bible condemns it.

I'm simply pointing out the people who feel persecuted are usually the ones doing the persecuting. Thus, if you, part of the majority of the religion in a set area and feel persecuted, you are probably the one doing the persecuting.

Historically I admire baptists due to their commitment to a separation of church and state. They learned first hand what happens when religion and government intermingle during colonial America at the hands of the Anglican church.

Today when I think of baptists I can only think of southern baptists, who seem to be traitors to their forefathers by trying to use the government to enforce their religious views. Indeed, every single negative stereotype I have about American Christians is embodied in southern baptists.

I do know that there are other baptist denominations not associated with southern baptists, and that the church split during the civil war. Perhaps the ancestors of the northern baptists still exist, and are simply much quieter than their southern cousins so they get less attention.

What is your opinion of the Baptists?

That would depend on the type of Baptist one is talking about. Reformed Baptists seem to be the ones closest to me overall in theology other than the whole pedo-baptism.

Congratulations, I hope you have found your spiritual home!

I married one, and the only quarrel we really had was over, well, Baptism. Other than that our beliefs meld very well.

God bless in your spiritual journey.

You know how we Christians tend to always try to convert people like you? Well the Baptists are the ones who are the least concerned about converting people and practically keep to themselves, yet their are one of the Christian groups who are persecuted the most. Perhaps it is because of our interference in politics.

The Amish don't try to convert people.

O.P says they don't follow the Old Testament.
Minutes later, O.P follows Old Testament.

Again, explain the logic in that.

Well someone mentioned that Baptists follow a strict and literal interpretation of the Bible. And then that person quoted me from another thread, so I came in to throw out some more rules of the Bible that he may or may not agree with. I'd say it's completely relevant if I'm showing him what rules he will be following.

What I mean is that I follow both, but if one testament has a view that contradicts the view of the other testament, I go with the New Testament.
