American NSGers: Conservative or Liberal?

Postby Danbershan » Tue Jul 24, 2012 2:46 pm

For all you Americans here on NSG, are you a conservative or a liberal? If you define yourself as either, of course. I'm mostly interested in the Americans in this issue, as people aren't so much defined as liberal or conservative outside of the USA. I want to see what kind of people frequent Nation States, as I get the general idea that it's mostly a liberal community.

Although I'm not actually American, I'd definitely be defined as a liberal.

If you're not American, by all means weigh in on your opinions anyway.

I'm a bleeding-heart liberal.

I'm a moderate social democrat up here in Canada, so I dunno, I guess I'd be considered a Nancy Pelosi-type Democrat in the States?

They tend to be liberal, "liberal" (various shades of leftist) or libertarian, rather than conservative

Neither.
As far as civil rights and liberties and social issues go, I'm quite libertarian.
On the economy, I'm a mix of democratic socialist and libertarian socialist.

Left-leaning libertarian who views being called a "conservative" as the gravest of insults.
I'm RPing a distant past tech nation populated nearly exclusively by three foot tall bipedal mice who are undergoing subtle speciation due to long lasting social policies.
If this is too ridiculous for you, you might want to opt out of RPing with me.

Go for it.

I'm just interested in the Americans because that's where the conservative/liberal divide is most prominent.

I would define myself as a moderate, with strong conservative leanings. But to counteract that, at least in the current political climate is my view that, every now and again, the Democrats have a good idea. At least from the outside, that seems to be a ex-communicable offense in the Republican Party. Both sides have good ideas. And Churchill got it right. "If you're not a liberal by 20, you have no heart. If you're not a conservative by 40, you have no brain." I'm also a bit of a libertarian.

I'm a liberal of some sort. I generally support left wing economics, moderately libertarian social policies, and patriotism/nationalism to an extent. Beyond that, I don't really know - my views are somewhat in flux currently.

I'm one of the last of a dying breed: a "New England" Republican. You can hardly call me a conservative, but its definately the closest thing.

For those of you that don't know what the difference is between regular Republicans and New England (aka "Moderate") Republicans, its that we're quite a bit more moderate, even slightly liberal when it comes to social issues, but steadfast conservatives on economic and "role-of-government" issues. We tend to be very patriotic, with strong foreign policies. Also, we usually side with some democrats on stuff like campiagn finance reform and division between chruch and state, etc.

I would much rather call myself a Republican (In the style of T. Roosevelt, Henry Cabot Lodge (JR & SR), Eisenhower, McCain, G.H.W. Bush, etc.), but I guess Conservative will do.

I don't identify with any political parties, or movements.
I suppose a lot of my opinions are liberal, but I also have some conservative tendancies. I prefer to consider issues and situations etc on a case by case basis, instead of viewing them all through a tinted lense.

Though I think the pressure to identify as one or the other is a major flaw in the system.

Though I'm not American, and I'm sort of trying to convert lab/lib/con into american terms, which may or may not have mixed up my points.

Conservative.

<Koyro> (Democratic Koyro) NSG senate is a glaring example of why no one in NSG should ever have a position of authority

I'm a right-libertarian, not fitting neatly into the conservative/liberal paradigm as used in the US. Classical liberal in the 19th-century sense is close. I vote Republican far more often than Democrat because I tend to vote for the least-statist alternatives on offer locally, and I don't hesitate to blank my ballot for one or several offices when the choices are too odious.
