Revolting, appalling, repulsive, abominable...ok, I think that's enough flowery language.

I'm not Christian, but if I were one I would be offended by his words for he is tarring the positive image of Christianity with these remarks.

Agreed.

It seems this little exchanged did get you flustered since you fired the only personal attack in the whole debate. Interesting read however.

Okay. Please on all sides lets remember to be angry at at the Pastor not christanity.

Stating facts =/= being angry
9 And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe[c] your own traditions! 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’[d] and, ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’[e] 11 But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God)— 12 then you no longer let them do anything for their father or mother. 13 Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”

And why would I be angry at the pastor. I already said I don't think he did anything wrong. He was saying what he thought. He was actually staying true to what it says. Christianity is deserving of my anger for being the barbaric and disgusting religion of hate that it is.

I absolutely hate the religion and what it does to people, I do not hate the religious.

Do you have the rest of the corresponding verses to this passage? such as the context of the beginning events and afterwards? Is it possible this is one of the times as stated before that the bible speaks in deep metaphor and what your stating could have a possible secondary meaning that requires deeper analysis to see?

Knock yourself out. If you find metaphor and deeper meaning, and it isn't bullshit that only applies when you look at it through a lens of "I really want this to be metaphor", then let me know.

I guess we will never really know will we? You would probably never admit Raven was right even if he was to save face. Lets face it most probably wouldn't. Its your post that seems to hint that Raven had you getting off kilter and thus your retaliated with a personal attack.

Just an observation.

But isn't that they best way to find a metaphor? This statement gives Raven some credibility to his remark about intentionally blinding yourself to a deeper meaning ( I'll find the post to reference soon)?

EDIT:

Then perhaps you have blinded yourself out of a self-inflicted hatred which stems from a personal feeling that neither Debate or idle talk will dissuade you. Or maybe you simply do not try to see the moral values some of the OT stories can teach. Rarely does the bible in many facets reveal its underlying meaning directly and to the point. But instead tries to focus its readers to a deeper understanding of the story allowing the reader to apply what was learned to the readers life.

If you do not approach a new doctrine from a completely unbias position you will never fully comprehend its meanings... in otherwords... you find germs in a clean room and blame the builders, but forgot to wash you own hands when you walked in...

I highlighted the area's in question.

No, no. I'm not blinding myself to metaphor. I'm just not intentionally and desperately wanting something to be metaphor. Yes, that's the best way to find a metaphor, a metaphor that isn't there. There are lots of metaphors in the bible. Now, look at the passage I linked you and show me the indication that it's a metaphor. And for what? I will even try to view it as a metaphor if you like. I just won't bend and twist the words out of shape.

Yes I am aware that a few posters in this thread are under the misapprehension that I have somehow lost my temper.
Which amuses me. After....what 2 years counting my previous nation, I've gotten rather good at being able to keep my cool.
Frankly, the only thing this conversation has made me is bored, the topic seems to have gone astray.

Look, I'll quote to you - word for word - what's written in my ESV Study Bible, just so I don't mince words and so you can better understand the passage:

7:10-13 honor your father and your mother (cf. Ex. 20:12; 21:17; Deut. 5:16). No one questions the importance of this law in the Ten Commandments; disregarding it was punishable with death in ancient Israel. Part of honoring father and mother is to care for them, both financially and personally, in their old age. However, Jewish tradition allowed that such funds originally dedicated to the care of parents could be declared Corban (Hebrew/Aramaic for legally "dedicated to God"; cf. Lev. 1:2; 2:1; etc.), meaning that the person would no longer be required to do anything for . . . father or mother. These funds could now be given to the temple, if so desired. Such human traditions thus allow room for the depravity of the human heart, directly opposing the Law of Moses which so often serves to protect the weak and helpless, in this case, parents in their feeble old age (making void the word of God). The "Corban" tradition is an example (along with many such things you do) of disregarding and rejecting the more important aspects of the Mosaic law.
