Did you miss the part of the Gospels where Jesus tells us that we can only find salvation through Him? I would suggest better study of Christianity in general. It has always been taught that you can't get to Heaven without accepting Jesus Christ as your savior. A quality consistently absent in all non-Christians.

*cough cough* Messianic Jews. *cough cough*

Also, I don't believe this is acceptable. I wish people would stop doing this; I don't think that Jesus as he is taught in the Bible would have told his followers to do such a thing - make those related to those whom died feel worse.

But my opinion doesn't matter as a Jew, does it? Not like we own the first half or so of that book or anything, right?

EDIT: By that book I mean the Bible. The Old Testament is the Torah - with some changes I believe.

Would you hate this one more or less then traditional religions of today?

"Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him." (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)

Yes, yes I would hate it.

Interesting you choose an old Testament book which is normally meant to serve as a historical account of before Jesus' time... Most Christians abide by the New Testament which is to be used to guide ones life...

I think your trying to reach to hard here :)

So the OT isn't part of the Christian religion? :eyebrow: Its rather annoying when Christians preach from the OT one minute but when they are called out on a certain verse they claim that the OT somehow doesn't count.
I believe thats called hypocrisy.

Oh it counts...

But as a means of showing where things once where as to where they are now... But even an old manual can still have a few tid bits of useful information as I'm sure you know.

Now lets also not confuse preaching with a history lesson and the moral values this lesson brings. This is the primary use of the OT.

To a preacher there is no difference, try listening to an actual sermon some time.
And I find there to be very little moral value on the OT.

Most of the time we forget the reasons these religions exist is to give someone a purpose when they cant see the light at the end of the tunnel. Unfortunately most of the time people do not utilize the entirety of what is taught by the religion as a whole...

Then perhaps you have blinded yourself out of a self-inflicted hatred which stems from a personal feeling that neither Debate or idle talk will dissuade you. Or maybe you simply do not try to see the moral values some of the OT stories can teach. Rarely does the bible in many facets reveal its underlying meaning directly and to the point. But instead tries to focus its readers to a deeper understanding of the story allowing the reader to apply what was learned to the readers life.

If you do not approach a new doctrine from a completely unbias position you will never fully comprehend its meanings... in otherwords... you find germs in a clean room and blame the builders, but forgot to wash you own hands when you walked in...

Jesus specifically says that you should follow the old testament and criticizes people for not following the old commands.

What. Go read your bible. The things that are written in it are still applicable to you. The specific command that jesus scolds people for not obeying? Stoning their drunken/unruly children. Not the one about stealing.
