Ft Lauderdale would be closest, but I don't want to go downtown for chicken when Popeyes is pretty awesome as it is.

Besides, I'm already aware of a fantastic small restaurant, it's called Legends and it's got great stuff and my first "eating out" option due to location, service, and quality. Plus the servers are very nice (I watched most of England and Ireland's Euro 2012 matches there)

Just not always viable.

There's no Chick-N-Grill or Yaya's near you?

Not that I've seen. I'm not in Ft Lauderdale mind, and only go into the city proper once in a while for Strikers games (which coincidentally happen near my old university).

Well at least your close to somewhere with good chicken. If you had said Jacksonville my best advice would have been "go to Miami" :D

Unless you can prove with sources that CFA donated to explicitly anti-gay causes after February 2011 you have no case.
Just because they haven't admitted to it doesn't mean they haven't stopped. They got called out for it once so what kind of idiot would keep donating and talking about it after the shitstorm that it created?

Now maybe if the FRC would be so kind as to release their financial records, they are 501(c) after all.

You're not getting me, holmes.

They stopped donating to anti-gay groups almost 18 months ago and have not donated to such groups since. Cathy's apology is CFA's way of saying “we won't even talk about it anymore.”

Wait, when did he apologize?

The company released a statement on the 20th or so saying something like we don't engage in discriminatory policies and they would be bowing out of the “family causes” arena in all forms.

In February of 2011 they said that they would no longer contribute money to “family causes” which I would assume, being the spawn of a far-right conservative, that they do not intend to donate to anti-gay or anti-abortion groups. So this means they don't intend on allowing execs to verbalize their opinions on such issues from now on either.

I'll dig it up, it's somewhere in this topic.

Wait, when did he apologize?

That's news to me as well. I thought he had been fairly unapologetic about the particular stance he was behind - "Guilty as charged" I thought he said.

Owning up isn't an apology.

The company invests in Christian growth and ministry through its WinShape Foundation (WinShape.com). The name comes from the idea of shaping people to be winners.

It began as a college scholarship and expanded to a foster care program, an international ministry, and a conference and retreat center modeled after the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove.

"That morphed into a marriage program in conjunction with national marriage ministries," Cathy added.

Some have opposed the company's support of the traditional family. "Well, guilty as charged," said Cathy when asked about the company's position.

"We are very much supportive of the family -- the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.

"We operate as a family business ... our restaurants are typically led by families; some are single. We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families. We are very much committed to that," Cathy emphasized.

"We intend to stay the course," he said. "We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles.

That interview was from this month, wasn't it?

I also tell them, in no unclear terms, that the DOMA has to go. I vote in every election. I subscribe to LGBT newsletters (among a host of others). I sign petitions. I don't buy from Chick-fil-A. I would've participated in a local protest if I hadn't had work to do that I couldn't get out of. And I've even sent a harshly-worded (but civil) e-mail straight to the Family Research Council telling them just what I think of them.

I'd say I'm doing my part, Raeyh. That I don't buy from Chick-fil-A is only a part of my overall support of LGBT issues, and it isn't even the part that I focus on most strongly. I'd be willing to bet I'm not the only person here who is that active.

Evidence points to a very public corporate culture of, once again, bigotry and support of marginalization of a minority, and since management usually hires like-minded individuals to work under them odds are that Dan Cathy isn't the only bigot in a position of power in Chick-fil-A's corporate structure.

I have two friends who work at other Chick-fil-A restaurants.

They too work or have worked with openly gay and lesbian employees.

Is it too late to point out that Truett Cathy's earlier restaurants were some of the first in Atlanta to be desegregated?

OK, so we have some actual cases. Where were these particular franchises? In locations where nondiscrimination statutes exist?
