Your religion is harsh to people. Starving is also bad for people to0, starving weakens one's immune system, and people can die if they eat to much immedialtly after starving.

I read that some stricter Muslims are forbidden from swallowing their saliva during fasting. But I guess it all goes down to individual interpretation of how to fast.

I think that the average servant in a household like ours earns quite a modest living, better than those of many Namibians. If they can be trusted, we pay them fairly well.

As earlier stated, every other unit on our street employs at least three people in such a capacity, but nobody here owns a sprawling estate or several expensive cars. It's possible that you find this unlikely because servants are very expensive to employ in the West, and are traditionally associated with the wealthy. But I live in Africa, where many people desperately need the jobs and are willing to work for those with "blue collar" incomes.

No. Domestic help in the third world isn't like it is in the West, where only the very privileged have personal assistants. From my experience, having lived in countries like the Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka it's usually middle or lower middle class families that hire people that need the work; in return they get a salary and room and board.
Taking a break.

It probably involves starch, refined sugar and/or dairy, so that won't work out.

Fasting may be a challenge, but hey, there's a lot you can benefit from this month. I heard that even sleeping could be rewardful. Also, ramadhan is a month to hold back your desires, whether it be sexual desires, your desire for food, and your anger (idk how that is a desire but doing that may break your fast).

Also, it came to my mind that since Satan and the other devils are tied up and kept away from us, does that mean that Ramadhan is a test to see whether we have already been conquered by them?

How is Ramadhan celebrated in your nation?

May Allah SWT reward us all for our efforts in this holy month.

Best of luck, guys! My old football coach was a Muslim and he used to bring extra energy drinks/bars for the non-Muslim players before the match during Ramadan so we could compensate for the weaker play of his son :p. By far my favorite coach sofar!

Ramadan Mubarak! For me, Ramadan is the month where I can't eat when I want to. I don't really know much about it, but I'm trying to learn because Islam is a pretty major part of my heritage I was never exposed to. I have a lot of respect for Muslims because this is not easy to do for even a week, let alone a whole month. I want to learn more about it, but because I'm not Muslim, I'm always told I don't have to fast or follow any other rules so I never really learn anything that I want to. I usually just cook food and bring it to homeless shelters or other organizations like that. I'm really quite ignorant about it.

This thread dates from 2012 - that's why Ramadan hasn't actually started yet.

Please don't restart old threads - this is called 'gravedigging'.
