With unemployment so bad in the area nowadays, we're just happy to be giving these people jobs, but some have taken advantage of us. There was an agency housekeeper who came a few times a month, but then she disappeared with some family treasures. The last cook had to be fired for the same offence.
There are three servants on staff now, two maids and a gardener. Every other family on the street maintains at least this many, but we certainly don't consider it a particularly wealthy or upper crust neighborhood.
Ah, I understand. I guess you're doing them a service by providing them with an occupation. Does it pay well relative to other jobs in Namibia?
But surely you would have to be pretty high up to have personal assistants and such. Or are they fairly common in Namibia?
