Ban guns, force them onto the black market, have criminals buy them off the black market, criminals terrorize law-abiding citizens.

That's not even touching on the issue of keeping guns in the hands of an ever-growing government. Sure you can trust your government now, but you never know what will happen tomorrow.

The 2nd Amendment was made so the Civilian populace may take up arms to defend their country in a Militia... banning such would reduce defensive capabilities and would decrease crime RATE but increase crime SEVERITY, by making guns only in the hands of Criminals.

A whole lot of people don't. In fact, most people that I've met who want to ban "assault rifles" haven't the slightest clue what they are.

if we ban gun the criminals will get the gun illegal somehow. So then the people that obey the law will have no way to defend themselves

I agree that the 2nd Amendment is outdated, back then small arms could win a battle, they can't noadays due to planes, armor, drones etc. But banning all guns is a stupid idea, people still hunt, they need protection. Perhaps ban all automatic weapons (do you need to hunt deer with an AK-47?)

The second amendment should not be repel, its the right and choice of every American citizen to own a firearm, i have regret that such massacres like the one that has been on the news today happen but we can not ban firearms. If banning firearms and outlawing them is what you believe then very well, but if it was to happen in real life only outlaws shall carry such weapons.

Aye, but it does prove a lack of causation for the other side.

It need not prove that guns lower crime, the correlation proves by itself that guns do not create a significant increase in crime.

What may follow is an investigation which proves causation, and the fact that this has been repeated in several different states, and countries may prove that causation.

I've also yet to consistently see reports saying that gun bans reduce crime. Most I've seen say that gun ownership either slightly lowers crime or that it has no statistically significant impact.

And the Colorado Theater killer would not have been caught by any normal background check. He had a BS in Neuroscience (UC Riverside), had recently withdrew from a PhD program at a highly competitive University of Colorado program (no particular warning bells there), he had no criminal record except a traffic ticket with Aurora police, and people in his apartment complex claim that he made no noise.

Also, he was not carrying an assault rifle, despite media reports. All the reports I've seen that go into detail say that his AR-15 was semi-automatic, and thus not a true assault rifle.

waiting periods won't help. I like the licensing bit. And full autos are basically banned, it takes alot of time and money to get your 3FFL license for one.

-Waiting periods are in effect for most weapons. Have you ever purchased a firearm before?
-Concealed handgun license for a civilian to legally carry a firearm
-There is a felony offense in place for full-auto. You must attain a permit if your business requires the protection of a high-rate of fire weapon, and that is a pain in the ass to get.

I find it very odd how passionate many Americans are about gun ownership. Being British, I find the concept of recreational gun ownership, and indeed many other laws allowing such easy access to guns, absurd. Guns should be restricted. Having them so 'freely' available can only lead to trouble.
