My friend had his 21st birthday and I went to a pizzeria with him later in the night after I went home he texted me and said he wanted to buy booze for the hell of it (I'm still 20) so we stayed up half the night drinking.

My 21st is in December, I will probably go down to the bar my above mentioned friend is a food vendor outside of, and get smashed and eat free hot dogs. I think your birthday is a good time for hedonistic indulgences, I go to the gym any other day of the year anyway.

I can get myself buzzed for cheap! :lol2: )

Well you'd be hard pressed to find someone who hasn't become at least a little bit of a seasoned drinker before they become of age, although if someone is underage and never really drank before, then yeah, they'll be in for a shitty time if they get smashed.

I think, when I turn 21, I will have 2 or 3 gin and tonics and a few Yeunglings and call it quits around the high end of tipsy.

Actually, not much. I had to work until an hour before the bars/stores closed so we could only pull off a desperate run to CVS for the goods. Of course, I proceeded to get drunk for the better part of a year thereafter...God, those were the days.

Mostly because when I was little my mom let my try a sip of her "grown up drink" and of course at that age I found wine and beer to be especially disgusting. So I never felt any great desire to risk getting in trouble trying to get my hands on it before I came of age. Still don't like beer or wine, come to think of it. Ciders FTW. Or a nice mead like I get every year at RenFaire. Now THAT is some good stuff!

Underage is relative. When I came of age, I was still a teetotaler. A year later, when I was seventeen, I'd changed my mind.

Well your first taste of alcohol is always a universally shitty experience as well. I remember being 12 at my cousin's wedding and another one of my cousins who was 18 at the time but somehow got served at the open bar insisted I have a beer, which he brought to me in a styrofoam cup so it looked just like Coke, and I was just like "Egghhhh". Although, my slightly hick dad's side of family drinks shitty beer anyway so in retrospect I wasn't surprised.

Right, I'm just saying in America especially where the drinking age is so high, there are teetotalers of course, but I would guess 99% of people either

1) drank before they were 21
2) remained teetotalers for some time after

And even if you never drank until you were legal, it's unlikely you'd be the type of person to want to get smashed anyway.

My parents went pretty much the other way around. They did not let me touch the stuff when I was very little. But when I was in the 13-15 range they let me sip their beers in order to get used to the taste. That way I also got very slowly used to the effects of alcohol and it wasn't quite a shock when I turned of legal drinking age.

My 21 birthday? Ummm... That’s quite some time ago by now...

Probably did what I’ve done on most birthdays since I moved away from home: got up, went to work, went home, had dinner, relaxed for a few hours, went to bed...

Why should the 21 birthday be so special?

Can't really remember. Likely it involved some friends, some alcohol, some gifts, some weed, some sex, and lots of chatter.

Why is the 21st so important anyway?

I guess because it's the legal drinking age in America. There's not much special about it in the UK, though - our drinking age is 18.

Pretty much this. The whole "legal age of drinking" thing wasn't a factor at the time, as I've never been much of a drinker, and never had any trouble getting served regardless of age in any event.

My roommate through me a surprise party on my 22nd birthday which was rather awesome, though. Two of the top five kisses I've ever received were at that party, both with their husbands standing by and cheering me/her on.

When I turn 21, there will be a keg party.

WHO WILL JOIN ME?

My manager fucked up my time off request {and then tried to spin it that I requested the wrong days off, as if I don't know when my own birthday is...} so I got to sit home doing nothing because I worked in the morning.

With the exception of Iceland, you can drink anywhere in Europe when you're 18. (Although, as far as I can tell, America's the only part of either North or South America that doesn't allow 19 year olds to drink.)

Agreed. By the time I reached 21 I'd mostly gotten over drinking myself stupid.

I tried to get drunk, but I had eaten too much beforehand. The absinthe, jager, rum, and whiskey only succeeded in getting me buzzed. The upside is that I was still in excellent video game playing condition well into the night.

Well lets see. Here is the NSG Safe cliffnotes version:

Went to NYC where my gf at the time was living with 15 of my closest friends. She had a wet bar built into her house. We all Drank like kings, "had fun", got in a swordfight, wore a gasmask, and the party didnt stop until the police (kindly suprisingly) shut it down at 5am. Now that is the ultra lite version.

I drank since I was..well since I was any age basically even before I was 16 I drank and nobody cared and neither did I, Because we're Russians and to us Russians beer, wine, mead, or vodka was like drinking orange juice, it was no big deal as we didnt abuse the hell out of it like Americans do. But, ofcourse this wasnt in Russia it was near the border of Russia, which is why I got busted each time the cops caught me drinking.

Anyways what I did for my 21st birthday was eat a whole lot of pizza and chicken. Oh how I love chicken....but it has to be fried. In fact I'm going to order some pzzahut right now, hell I dont care what time it is.

Eh, went to Medieval Times. My 'big crazy party' birthday was when I was nineteen. Alcohol and Mortal Kombat. What a fun night.
