Wow if it was apparent before who the Alabama haters were, it is now. Look, I am just as much an advocate of a play-off system as you are. Before last season's chaos, I wanted a 4-team play-off. Now I'm glad it is finally happening in the next couple years, and it's unfortunate that it is not for this year. That being said, can you really hate on Alabama's schedule when looking at Oregon's?

Should Kansas State be in it? They were destroyed by what, 28 points by 4-5 Baylor? They are out of the picture.
Oregon's loss is equivalent to Alabama's. Lost barely to a team ranked in the teens. Maybe ND will lose to USC and we'll have an Alabama v. Oregon game. I think it's a big possibility.

Qazox' TOP 11 (wk12)

Postby Qazox » Sun Nov 18, 2012 10:28 am

Hoo-boy what a Saturday Night huh?

Most impressive win of the weekend: Baylor destroying K-State.

(Remember the #8 spot is for the best non-BCS AQ team of the past week)

#1- Notre Dame (def. Wake Forest 38-0) LW: #3
#2- Ohio State (def. Wisconsin 21-14 OT) LW: #4
#3- Alabama (def. Western Carolina 49-0) LW: #5
#4- Georgia (def. Georgia Southern 45-14) LW: #6
#5- Florida State (def. Maryland 41-14) LW: #7
#6- Florida (def. Jacksonville State 23-0) LW: #9
#7- Texas A&M (def. Sam Houston State 47-28) LW: #10
#8- San Jose State (9-2) (def. Brigham Young 20-14) (SJSU with 9 wins this year??? uhm...I don't think they've won 9 games in the last 3 years before this..)
#9- LSU (def. Ole Miss 41-35) LW: #11
#10- Oregon (lost to Stanford 14-17 OT) LW: #2
#11- Clemson (def. North Carolina State 62-48) LW: #NR

Fell Out: K-State (Losing that bad as the #1 team in the country... not gonna stay in my Top 11 with that performance)

Congrats to the following teams for clinching bowl eligibility this weekend: 65 teams are now bowl eligible
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Iowa State Cyclones
University of Miami Hurricanes
Syracuse Orange (still have a BCS shot... :o )
Air Force Falcons ( yay! )

My current BCS Bowl predictions: which will likely be shattered again this weekend...
Orange Bowl: Florida State (ACC) v. Rugters (Big East)
Sugar Bowl: Florida (SEC) v. Oregon (Pac 12)
Rose Bowl: Nebraska (Big 10) v. Stanford (Pac 12)
Fiesta Bowl: Kansas State (Big XII) vs. Clemson (ACC)
BCS CHAMPIONSHIP: Notre Dame vs. Alabama/Georgia Winner (SEC)

Quick explanation: The Georgia/Alabama loser will not get a BCS game, and in this Florida Beats FSU on saturday. If FSU beats Florida, then I'd think LSU would get the Sugar Bowl bid.

It's a really simple concept that if you lose this late in the season (especially at home), you're out of luck. Yet for some reason, Alabama is still in the running.

EDIT: The schedule point is to bring up that Alabama is not a god team. They are the best team this year, but they aren't even the best team this decade. I think that Alabama is a beatable team, considering they've, in reality, only played two quality teams so far.

Mississippi State doesn't count? They were #11 when Bama played them. And Arkansas could've easily been #6 if they hadn't lost to ULM. If Tennessee had had a better season, they would be a decent team. So that's 5 teams that were ranked that played Bama this season. Not to mention #8 Michigan. Or is it when these high ranked teams lose so bad to Bama they're considered "mediocre"?

Michigan - Great ratings, bro.

Mississippi State - K.

Arkansas - Looooooooool.

Tennessee - Amazing.

I'll lift Miss. State up from "mediocore" to "decent". They're nothing special this year.

What they were ranked at the time doesn't matter. Holy shit. Arkansas is 4-7, get real. And now for the dumbest quote I've seen all week.

"If Tenessee had had a better season, they would be a decent team."

What does that even mean. I guess I can say if Illinois had a better season, they would be a decent team, so let's put them in the championship. Alabama gets credit for beating LSU, and MSU is decent. LSU is NOT an elite team either, mind you.

Alabama is probably the best team, but don't try and tell me they have the toughest schedule. Oregon's, by the time it's all over, will have played a schedule much tougher, and theirs isn't great.

That's not what that DF means....but okay.

DF means "Dear Friends". Which I used in this case. In no way was I trying to call anyone a dumbfuck. Should've pointed that out, sorry.

Ranked teams Alabama has beaten (in order of USA Today latest ranking): LSU (8), Michigan (20), and Mississippi State (24). In order to win out they will have to beat Georgia (3). Their one loss was to Texas A+M (10).

Ranked teams Oregon has beaten (same ordering): None. In order to win out they will have to beat UCLA (16) and Oregon State (17). Their one loss was to Stanford (11)

Ranked teams Kansas State has beaten (same ordering): Oklahoma (13) and Oklahoma State (21). In order to win out they will have to beat Texas (15). Their one loss was to Baylor (Unranked).

Analysis: Alabama is the only one of the three who has beaten a top ten team, and the only one who has to beat one to reach the championship. Additionally, their loss was to the highest-ranked of the three. Assuming Notre Dame wins out, Alabama is clearly the most deserving of the three to play for the National Championship come January.

But also: Georgia! Ranked teams they've beaten: Florida (6). In order to win out they must beat Alabama (2). Their one loss was to South Carolina (12).

Additional Analysis: If Georgia beats Alabama, they will most likely play for the National Championship. I think the voters will be impressed enough to put them in over KSU or Oregon, but all three teams are very closely matched.

Tennessee hasn't allowed that many yards per game over a full season since at least 1950, the earliest year Tennessee measures that statistic in its media guide.

The Vols have yielded at least 38 points in five straight games. Before you say 1977 or 2008 was worse: 1977 was Majors' first year, and in 2008 we still had Fulmer, John Chavis, and Eric Berry and we won three SEC games.

Unfortunately, the rankings, while far from perfect, are how things are determined in college football. Since the rankings favor Alabama, they will play for the national championship in January.
