Qazox' TOP 11 (wk11)

Postby Qazox » Sun Nov 11, 2012 9:56 pm

Most impressive win of the weekend: Missouri outlasting Tenessee in 4OT.

(Remember the #8 spot is for the best non-BCS AQ team of the past week)

#1- Kansas State (def. TCU 23-10) LW: #3
#2- Oregon (def. California 59-17) LW: #2
#3- Notre Dame (def. Boston College 21-6) LW: #4
#4- Ohio State (OFF WEEK) LW: #5
#5- Alabama (Lost to Texas A&M 24-29) LW: #1
#6- Georgia (def. Auburn 38-0) LW: #6
#7- Florida State (OFF WEEK) LW: #7
#8- Kent State (9-1) (def. Miami, OH 48-32)
#9- Florida (def. La.-Laffayette 27-20) LW: #9
#10- Texas A&M (def. Alabama 29-24) LW: #NR
#11- LSU (OFF WEEK) LW: #11

Fell Out: Louisville

Congrats to the following teams for clinching bowl eligibility this weekend: 54 teams are now bowl eligible
North Carolina State Wolfpack
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Minnesota Golden Gophers
Brigham Young Cougars
Washington Huskies
Arizona Wildcats
Vanderbilt Commodores
Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners (1st year in FBS)

My current BCS Bowl predictions:
Orange Bowl: Florida State (ACC) v. Rugters (Big East)
Sugar Bowl: Alabama (SEC) v. Notre Dame
Rose Bowl: Nebraska (Big 10) v. Oklahoma (Big XII)
Fiesta Bowl: Georgia (SEC) v. Clemson (ACC)
BCS CHAMPIONSHIP: Kansas State (Big XII) v. Oregon (Pac 12)

How would you rank the one-loss teams? Here is my guess:

Alabama 9-1 Beat Michigan, Mississippi State, LSU
Florida State 9-1. Big wins: Clemson, Miami, Va Tech
Georgia 9-1 beat Florida, Vanderbilt, Tennessee
Louisiana Tech 9-1 lost by 2 points to Texas A&M
Florida 9-1 Beat Tennessee, LSU, South Carolina
Kent State 9-1 beat Rutgers, Miami of Ohio
Louisville 9-1. Beat Cincy and Pgh who are ok.
Clemson 8-1Quality wins (at the time): Va Tech. Their wins are actually against weak teams.
Rutgers 8-1 Beat Syracuse, who are ok.
Kent State 9-1 beat Rutgers, Miami of Ohio
North Dakota State 9-1 beat Youngstown State, Southern Illinois
Montana State 9-1 beat Drake, Sacramento State
Old Dominion 9-1 beat New Hampshire
Lehigh 9-1 beat Princeton, Fordham, Liberty
Northern Illinois 9-1 Beat losing teams

I assume it's a team who never has a lead so I'm going to say Akron. Or maybe UMass.

And I've gotten madder than I have before. Back when Alabama lost to South Carolina in 2010, I didn't come back inside for about 6 hours. SO I've had worse.

Not to mention Notre Dame still has to play USC. Alabama definitely isn't out of the national championship race yet.

Texas/Texas A&M BCS bowl would be epic. Too bad it's not going to happen, even if they both win out. :(

Actually they are, even if 2 of the top 3 lose, the media isn't going to let Bama play for a national title. Not again. Meaning #1 and #3 would play for the national title. The media hates Bama, so they aren't going to let them have a chance at another national title. That's the way it's been since Bear Bryant was there.

So how do you explain this?

1989- Played for national title
1992- Played for National Title
2009- Played for national Title
2011- played for national title

Since 1982 only Miami and Nebraska has played for the national title more.

also The AP poll (media) doesn't count towards the BCS, thier rankings don't really mean anything in terms of the BCS as the BCS #1 and #2 only matter (until 2014!).

And the Media LOVED Alabama. Once 'Bama became #1 this year, only a total of 17 voters in 7 combined polls didn't have them #1.

Pure luck. In 2011, they just wanted to see LSWHO beat Bama again. 1992, They wanted Miami to win. 1989, Bama lost. And 2009, They wanted Texas to win another national title to prove Colt Mccoy was a god.

Why can't it be like it was back in the old days? #1 and #2 played for the national title, no BCS, no voting, no bullshit. Just fair playing.

#1 and #2 rarely met for a national title from 1945-1998 : Just look at any BOWL #1 v #2 match-up prior to 1998:

Total times: 11 in 53 years. So #1 and #2 met for the title in a bowl game just 20.75% of the time; which is considerably LESS than now, which is every year since 1998. I hate the BCS, but at least It does have a #1 v #2 every year.

Qazox wrote:Most impressive win of the weekend: Missouri outlasting Tennessee in 4OT.

Good sir, with all due respect from a lifelong UT fan... wut.

Before the Mizzou game: "Tennessee has given up 35.4 points and 483.1 yards per game. The Vols haven't given up that high a scoring average over the course of a full season since allowing 42.7 per game while playing a six-game schedule in 1893. Tennessee hasn't allowed that many yards per game over a full season since at least 1950, the earliest year Tennessee measures that statistic in its media guide.

The Vols have yielded at least 38 points in five straight games. [...] Sunseri took over as Tennessee's defensive coordinator this season and switched the Vols to a 3-4 scheme, though they have used more four-man fronts lately. Tennessee ranked 28th nationally in total defense (340.5) and 36th in scoring defense (22.6) last season under former coordinator Justin Wilcox, who left for the same position at Washington. The Vols currently rank 112th in total defense and 107th in scoring defense."

The last time Tennessee was this bad, we were running the single-wing and General Neyland had just retired. 1954 Vols, Harvey Robinson, 4-6 (1-5 SEC). (Oh yeah, that's right, we actually won an SEC game that year...) Before you say 1977 or 2008 was worse: 1977 was Majors' first year, and in 2008 we still had Fulmer, John Chavis, and Eric Berry and we won three SEC games.

The Clawson-Kiffin-Dooley era is a stain on the Tennessee program that can't be wiped away. No matter how hard we try, it'll never go away. Nothing that Dooley's done in any part of his tenure has been anything remotely resembling "impressive". Mizzou's win was just terrible, horrendous, abysmal coaching from UT in the second half on both the defensive side (allowing the Tigers to knot it up in the fourth on a long pass when we were in a prevent defense) and the offensive side (allowing the clock to run to OT when we had the ball, two timeouts, and thirty seconds remaining in regulation).

You really think someone's going to leapfrog Alabama if 2 of [Kansas State/Notre Dame/Oregon] loses? Who? The team they would have to beat in the SEC championship anyway?

Well, I said SEC and Florida is in the SEC so you can just assume, "If he says the SEC, and I am wondering about Florida, I can assume he's including Florida since he brought up the entire SEC."

There's never anything about FSU on ESPN until they play Florida, really.

FSU doesn't have much of a chance in playing in a BCS bowl unless they win the ACC or the Sugar Bowl head does some stupid choosing (see Virgina Tech vs Michigan, 2011).

So, and this is just me wondering, why did Alabama only drop to 5?

If, say, Oregon lost to #16, they'd be lucky to not drop out of the top 10.

If K. State loses, they're going to drop to 13 or lower.

What is it going to take to get the media off of the South Eastern Cock?

Oklahoma State lost to unranked Iowa State (who finished the season 6-7) and dropped from #2 to #3...please stop thinking it's only SEC bias.
