Updated BCS Standings

I have no idea why Alabama is getting so much respect from the computers. Other than Michigan they ahven't played anybody that has a winning record; while Florida has beaten 2 top ten teams (and is rightfully #1 in the computer); K-State's beaten two top-25 teams on the road and Oregon's beaten 3 ranked teams this year.

Too much of this is played on tv here, it isn't relevant, NFL teams people can cheer for but college doesn't matter.

Well Ole Miss is 4-3 and WKU is 5-2, if that counts for something. Mizzou, Arkansas, and Tennessee would all have .500 records if it wasn't for their losses to Bama.

And no, Oregon hasn't beaten 3 ranked teams this year. Washington and Arizona were ranked at a time, but aren't anymore. Who's the third team? Wazzu and ASU were never ranked.

Arizona State were ranked at one point, and before Thursday night's game had the 3rd best scoring defense in the Pac-12. I should have said for Alabama: GOOD +.500 teams. Miss and WKU aren't good teams by any measure. Florida, Oregon and K-State have had a tougher schedule by far than 'Bama, as well as: South Carolina, LSU, Texas Tech, West Virginia, Baylor, Stanford...

This looks like the weakest schedule for Alabama I can ever recall. The big schools use weakness of schedule against good teams like Ohio U and Toledo; they should use it against themselves too.

Arkansas was ranked at one point, as well. Really, the only thing that matters is where the teams are now, not if they were ranked at some point. If so, Bama would have a great schedule with #8 Michigan and #8 Arkansas. Up to this point, I would say teams like Florida and K-State (but not Oregon) have had tougher tests than Bama, but the only way they can secure the #1 spot is by a Bama loss. We still have to play Mississippi State, LSU, and A&M...all three are ranked. If Bama, K-State, and Oregon go undefeated (assuming ND loses eventually to either USC or OU and Florida losing to Bama in the SECCG), then things would get interesting. All three teams would have great resumes

1. Bama beat Michigan, who might win the B1G, LSU, A&M, MSST, Florida in the SECCG
2. K-State demolished WVU on the road, and took care of OU. Still has Texas (who might not be ranked at the end of the season) and Texas Tech
3. Oregon will have played Oregon State, USC (twice), and Stanford.

Who goes?

(going just off the records at the tme of playing)

If that scenario plays out (Alabama, K-State and Oregon all unbeaten)... Bama and K-State. Oregon would've beaten a 2 or 3 loss USC team and an unbeaten/1 loss Oregon State. 2 twice, reducing the impact of the wins over USC. 'Bama would've beaten a 1-Loss LSU, unbeaten Miss St, 2-loss A&M and a Unbeaten/1-loss Florida or 1-loss Georgia; while K-State would have beaten at least 3 teams that were unbeaten/had 1-loss at the time (Oklahoma, WVU, Texas Tech) and decent Texas and TCU teams. It woild likely come down to Oregon-USC #2 and Oregon would ahve to win very impressively to get past K-State.

If ND goes unbeaten... At best they'd only be #3 behind an unbeaten Alabama/Florida and K-State/Oregon. Between Oklahoma and USC, the 3 games they have (Pitt, BC and Wake) aren't good enough to move them any higher.

That's what they all say.

It's because Alabama is the only team in the country who has an existing defense. It;s the other teams' fault for giving up 60 point every game, whether they win or not.

So who have Alabama played so far this year???

Michigan- 3rd/4th best team in Big Ten
W. Kentucky- 3rd best team in Sun Belt
Arkansas- 5-7 team at best
Florida Atlantic- 7th best team in Sun Belt
Missouri- 4-8 team at best
Tennessee- 6-6 team at best.

Florida:
Bowling Green: 6th best MAC team
Texas A&M: 8-4 team at best
Tenneessee: 6-6 team at best
Kentucky: 4-8 team at best
LSU: 10-2 or 11-1 team at best
Vandy: 4-8 team at best
S. Carolina 9-3 or 10-2 team at best.

Bama's best win so far is against the 3rd best team in a down conference, while Florida's beaten 2 top 10 tens and plays a 3rd this weekend. Yes, Alabama's back-half of the schedule is tough and Florida's isn't. But so far.. Gators >>> Tide. And that's not counting that K-State's better schedule than Bama, and Oregon's is just a good and Notre Dame's is better as well.

Again, the difference is Bama has a defense, other teams don't. And I can't wait till Alabama beats murders FlaGa in the SECCG and see Driskel cry like Tebow did.

The point isn't about Alabama's Defense; it's about who've they played.

That's why having ANY rankings before the 1st week of October is stupid. The only reason why Alabama's #1 is because they started highly ranked and haven't lost. If they started the rankings after the 1st week of October, perhaps Alabama might not be #1 (they'd be top 3 easily, but not #1).

My whole point the people doing the computer portions of the BCS rankings started off baised, as they use the pre-season rankings as a base to start determining all their calculations. The Harris Poll (which does start in October) is slightly more accurate in rankings, though there is a slight bias to teams already ranked.

If the first rankings of any kind came out last week, Oregon, K-State and Florida might have been ranked higher than Alabama, based on body of work up to that point.

I love college football (moreso than the NFL); but the one thing that has always ticked me off is the pre-season polls, beacuse they reward LAST YEAR not this year.

I'm not saying that Alabama's a bad team, in fact odds are they will likely be the first team to win back-to-back BCS titles; but given who've they beaten this year.. they shouldn't be ranked #1, just yet; as other teams have proven themselves more so far this year than Alabama has.

Well who in the hell do you want them to play? Mt. Union? Or maybe Sam Houston State. No No, maybe Wisconsin-Whitewater.

It's not that Bama didn't play any ranked team this year, it's just that they were unranked at the time Bama played them. For instance, Arkansas. They were preseason #6 or #7 and were unranked when Bama played them.

Bama is #1 for many reasons. One of those being that basically no non-SEC team can compete with Alabama. I'm pretty sure Alabama could blow out K-State, ND, and Ore-ger-ron within the first half. Since those teams lack a defense.

Best game this weekend??

#5 Notre Dame @ #8 Oklahoma
#14 Texas Tech @ #3 Kansas State
#11 Mississippi State @ #1 Alabama
#2 Florida v. #10 Georgia @ Jacksonville, FL

Texas Tech and K-State I think will be the best.

But here's the big question.. IF Notre Dame, Florida, Alabama and K-State all lose what will the BCS top 5 look like?

Here is my projection, IF that happens:
    #1- Oregon
    #2- Oklahoma
    #3- Alabama
    #4- Mississippi State
    #5- Oregon State

Yeah, if LSWHO can get a QB who can tell the other teams' players from his own.

Haha. Oh LSU....just a special school. With their former QB and the Honey Badger getting arrested making headlines

And I don't see MSST upsetting Bama on Saturday. Gonna be a great game, albeit it's at night and it's going to be cold. Looking forward to a loud Rammer Jammer in Tuscaloosa, just like we did in Knoxville!
