Thought I'd share one of the funniest ESPN comments I've seen. It was under an article about 4 gay players possibly coming out in the NFL.

None. Last time was Bernie Kozar who got a super bowl ring being the back up for Troy Aikman. (if that counts as a successful career)

Getting a ring, even as a benchwarmer, is better career accomplishment than the vast majority of quarterbacks in the league will ever experience.

Not necessarily. The benchwarmer who wins a ring doesn't really earn it on the field.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather be part of that Super Bowl winning experience than be a starter for a mediocre team (in this case, the Browns).

Well generally it relegates you to a career of being a backup, if you have a career at all. But I mean, with no weapons and a terrible offensive line, you're pretty much a failure the moment you step out onto the field.

I'm just saying I'm glad Brees started out with the Chargers whom, though lacking success, at least had an offense capable of putting up numbers. If he'd started out with the Browns, the Saints might not have taken a chance on him, and would still be yet another laughing stock team, :?

If I were to make a criticism of Browns management it would be that, you need to build an offense before you look for the quick fix. Delhomme comes to mind, he was a successful QB with a SuperBowl appearance, but then he took a starting position in Cleveland that was expecting him to turn it around on his own, with no weapons, and that was all she wrote.

Not only was he without weapons, but he was a fair bit older than he was in the SB run, and had some serious medical concerns with his arm (or shoulder? can't remember). I'm all for bringing in older quarterbacks to help jumpstart a young, inexperienced offense with no expectations - as long as you bring in a solid youngster to act as his understudy and be able to step up the next season. To their credit, the Browns at least tried that, but they've been betting on the wrong horses when it comes to drafting QBs for a while now.

I wouldn't say it's lack of talent, I'd say its poor choices by the past GM's they have had.

Well. It's lack of talent caused by the poor choices of past GM's they've had, coupled with playing in the hardest division in the NFL.

I had some hope for the Browns this year until they hired Lombardi, but I might have been too hasty in judging him. Their new owner sounds serious about making the team better, and the coaching staff is solid. Their roster is better than it has been in past years as well. Can't wait for the draft.

I think Cleveland is heading in the right direction: they have a lot of good young talent and plenty of cap space. They lost several close games last year: if the odds get even and the rest of the AFC North declines like I think they will, the Browns should crack 500.
