it seems like an alex smith deal to the cheifs is all but done. Course i stil give it a 40% chance that this won't happen. Maybe a bit more.

Might actually work, I'd like the Chiefs to go somewhere. I mean, they have some talent, they just don't need to do anymore gambling on career-backup QBs like Matt Cassel. Smith is a proven starter.

Has anyone heard anything new about Leon Sandcastle? He seemed like a great athlete, but it seems like he's completely fallen off the map lately.

Considering his play versus Manning's or Brees throughout the three's careers, I can't say I think he's deserving. His numbers don't match up.

But, he's solid enough I suppose to hold down the job, and as long as the Ravens can keep their system in place it might not be a bad deal, provided Flacco stays healthy.

With the current crop of "elites" (Manning, Brady, Brees) aging, tying up a franchise qb that is still improving with a six year deal could well be worth the money. Although this contract will take him to age 34, not so keen on signing players to that long of a deal when they get into their thirties.

Yeah, I can see it from the Ravens' point of view. I just don't think it says anything about Flacco. Brees threw for more yards than any QB in history when he got his pay raise, Flacco just happened to be in a good system that won a SuperBowl.

I mean, I could be wrong, Flacco could be stellar for the next decade or so, but I just think that he's more a product of a good system in Baltimore than personally being as good as his paycheck. That doesn't mean he's bad, just not the best in the league.

Good system? For the first five years of his career his OC was best known for his ability to hamstring QBs who would go on to be great without him. His receiving core was a merry go round of washed up vets. The offensive line ranged was mediocre at best. If Flacco leaned on Ray Rice, it was only because Rice was the only member of the offensive who was consistently good.

Also, "Flacco just happened to be in a good system that won a Superbowl" is a funny way of saying that he tied the record for best postseason by a quarterback since the introduction of the Superbowl.

That said, no player is worth 20 million a year and QB salaries are increasing at an unsustainable rate. Flacco isn't the best QB in the league, only the one with the most leverage. One could argue top five (I'd say top ten), but what matters is that he's a successful QB who has done well despite the system he's been in.

On a lighter note, who heard about the woman kicker who tried out for the Jets? The thought was nice, but I wish she hadn't done such a horrible job.

Steven Jackson to Indy?

Usually I'm not a fan of shaking up aging veterans in free agency, and Jackson's clearly starting to lose a bit, but he's still got enough left to be worthwhile, he's shown he can produce behind a piss-poor line, and Indy isn't exactly hurting for cap space.
The American Legion is a neo-fascist terrorist organization, bent on implementing Paulinist Sharia, and with a history of pogroms against organized labor and peace activists and of lynching those who dare resist or defend themselves against its aggression.

Niners seem the most likely option. They've got a lot of draft picks to use in a trade, and San Francisco is definitely only one player away from a title (if they need anyone at all).

Also, I think the Raiders will draft Geno Smith. Is that a stupid move? Absolutely. But this is probably the worst run team in the NFL. They use draft picks like arcade tokens to go trade for washed-up veterans, and blow any remaining ones on big fast guys who can't play football. A fun-and-gun spread QB taken 3rd overall would be right up their alley.

I was rooting for as low a Flacco contract as possible, since the higher it is the more GB will have to pay Rodgers.
