Lincoln was good for his time, but I think I would dislike him strongly had he been a peacetime president. Reagan was the man we needed after dealing with the Carter Recession and the crisis in Iran, and he was definitely a better match for Gorbachev than Mondale would've been.

Hindsight is always 20-20, isn't it? Why would Lincoln have been a bad peacetime president? You can't really say what Mondale would have done vis-a-vis the Soviet Union because he lost the election.

I don't want to say straight out that he would have been bad, just that I would not have liked him. His political views were rather socialist bordering on communist, and most of his policy decisions go unnoticed because of the focus on the Civil War. I personally think that had he been a peacetime president, I would not have liked him, but that's not to say he would have been a bad president.

Walter Mondale served as Jimmy Carter's VP, and the two shared many views. From that, one might infer that Mondale would have been much the same as Carter, and, looking at the Carter administration's disastrous decisions concerning both the Soviet Union (Moscow Olympics, for example) and the Middle East (Iran hostages), one can infer that it would not have gone well at all, to put it mildly.

Perón worse than Videla and Galtieri? Get the fuck out of here.

I'm not a fan of Perón's Mussolini fanboyism, but to seriously claim the man who extended welfare to the entire working class, made healthcare mandatory, increased wages, expanded Argentina's electric grid and introduced universal suffrage is somehow worse than the goddamn National Reorganisation Process is patently ludicrous.

That's not everyhing I wrote. And by the way, I don't like almost any peronista governments. Thanks for remembering me that videla and Galtieri were piece of shit too.. Even worse than Perón.

Jury's still out on Obama, but historians (both liberal and conservative) and people in general tend to rank FDR near the top. You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but I'm just pointing out that your opinion of FDR doesn't seem to be as popular as you might believe it to be.

See for yourself, it's actually pretty interesting to watch Reagan's scores fluctuate while you're at it:

Nixon'd probably get bad marks for modern presidencies when you factor in his overall record, but I have a hard time thinking of him as worse than Jackson.
