I love oil. Why don't you?

I want.

Look at this. It is what fuels all human life. It is what fills the crisp summer air with the growls of a 500 cu. in. V8s. It is why everyone in the world knows the names "ferrari" and "Mustang" and not "leaf." It facilitated the creation of the 16-cylinder Bugatti Veyron.

Now look at this.

http://money.cnn.com/2011/09/28/pf/nort ... htm?iid=EL

There is a place - not a glamorous place, but an American place - where the oil is flowing like water. Unemployment in the town has reached ONE PERCENT. They can't build houses fast enough to match the exponentially growing population.

Be sure to send me a telegram when Solyndra or Tesla or the Prius does that.

So, why do people hate oil aside from "global warming"? Let's face it, we will never get off it. I've driven a Prius - I got like 19 mpg driving down a small town street. Why do people always talk about getting off it? If little ol' Williston, ND is what oil reaps, keep it coming...as long as we make it and not Iran.

how long is "a while"?

By the way, the sun will explode in time too. Why use solar power? hey, why even use the Earth? Let's just stop everything and die out like dodos! That will solve everything!

Many decades, at least.

And?

Imagine the doomsday scenario when we do and have made no progress in alternative fuel.

Because we ca do something about.

Please tell me how we can stop the sun from exploding.

The sun is going to explode, in billions of years. Do you think oil is going to last billions of years?

Except the Sun doesn't run out because we used it too much. Your entire argument is a fallacy.

One location does not a trend make.

Besides, petroleum usage as a fuel is a large contributor to greenhouse gases. I.E., the shit that traps heat in the atmosphere.

Natural gas is a much cleaner and more efficient alternative to oil, IIRC. And we have metric shittons of it.

Yeah.

Well, no...they won't be fucked...I am saying that we should use the oil now and worry about other fuels when we actually need them.

We will deal with it then. We do not need to waste time on it NOW.

An exponentially growing population would completely overrun the planet in less than a month. So I'm going to go out on a limb and say you don't actually know what that word means. Also you're clearly unaware of the concept of scarcity and finite resources.

Decades is a pretty short measurement. It might take us decades to get a solution.

Yes. We do need to "waste time" on it NOW. Oil is obviously very important and you can't put huge things off with "we'll deal with it when we get to it". When we get to it will be a fucking disaster and we need to be prepared for it.

Better, but still bad. I think that we could use natural gas to wean us onto nuclear, and then onto renewables. By then, I hope we'll have developed a way to fix the damage done.

Most estimates I've been shown don't give us much more than a half century of oil left, so it's safe to assume we need a new large power source. I'd like to die in a world not devoid of power, thank you very much.

Either a troll, or someone who really doesn't understand the importance of planning ahead and not dealing with horrible shit right at the last minute (teenager?).

I'm going with Poe.
