Why do people always talk about getting off it?

Look at this. It is what fuels all human life. It is what fills the crisp summer air with the growls of a 500 cu. in. V8s. It is why everyone in the world knows the names "ferrari" and "Mustang" and not "leaf." It facilitated the creation of the 16-cylinder Bugatti Veyron.
Now look at this.

There is a place - not a glamorous place, but an American place - where the oil is flowing like water. Unemployment in the town has reached ONE PERCENT. They can't build houses fast enough to match the exponentially growing population.
Be sure to send me a telegram when Solyndra or Tesla or the Prius does that.
So, why do people hate oil aside from "global warming"? Let's face it, we will never get off it. I've driven a Prius - I got like 19 mpg driving down a small town street. Why do people always talk about getting off it? If little ol' Williston, ND is what oil reaps, keep it coming...as long as we make it and not Iran.

Yeah.
Well, no...they won't be fucked...I am saying that we should use the oil now and worry about other fuels when we actually need them.New Sapienta wrote:And?
Imagine the doomsday scenario when we do and have made no progress in alternative fuel.
We will deal with it then. We do not need to waste time on it NOW.

Besides, petroleum usage as a fuel is a large contributor to greenhouse gases. I.E., the shit that traps heat in the atmosphere.
Natural gas is a much cleaner and more efficient alternative to oil, IIRC. And we have metric shittons of it.
