I don't drink, I've tried it but I don't see where the 'joy' comes from.

For me, it's the taste. I don't like sweet things much, but love bitter and strong stuff. I have similar tastes with food. Additionally, certain beverages are great flavour enhancers, like vodka with stuff like dill pickles or garlic sausage.

Getting drunk is sort of a side-effect I don't mind but don't gun for. I've never been so drunk as to not be in control of myself. At best I've had a loss of balance and a floaty feeling in my head, but that's it. I was still aware I was drunk and such. I think the important thing with alcohol is that you should know your limit with it. For some, the limit starts before the first drink. For me, it's usually at the second or third glass, barring certain situations.

But it's also good to note that you won't get drunk from one glass. Well, not visibly so. Alcohol is a narcotic and even a little has an effect, but one glass of wine doesn't turn you into superasshole.
