Obviously. House parties usually suck because you have to clear up. But if someone else has them, you don't!

This is definitely it.

Also, if having people around, but not to the same scale as a house party, don't let a coked-up friend barricade himself in the under-stairs cupboard.

That's completely insane. Firstly, frogs don't spend all their time sitting on lily pads and can paddle quite well. Secondly, chickens are birds so they'd float as well as a duck does.

My advice: birds are descended from dinosaurs. Don't fuck with them.
Also, "fight like a cornered rat" isn't just a figure of speech. If you give a rat no way out, it WILL go for your face.

If you're having an outdoor fire at your party and you run out of wood, let the fire go out and all go inside. Putting a rubber inner-tube on there is NOT better than nothing.

They all made sense once.

"A stitch in time saves nine" made a lot of sense, back when people repaired damaged clothing instead of just buying a replacement.

I wouldn't let a british public doctor near my prostrate, strangely i would go to a swedish doctor. (and i have been to both countries).

The point is, it is better to have the financial freedom to make decisions, rather than rely on others to make these decisions for you.

Filling out applications for Graduate schools. Is Aberdeen really as dark, dingy, and depressing as it is made out to be?

Also - shot in the dark here - but does anyone know anything about the QUB post-grad Political Philosophy program that the uni website doesn't say?

Aberdeen is grey. Very grey. And I don't mean figuratively or anything, it's got a huge number of granite buildings, and in winter it's really quite grim.

I don't know anything about the QUB course, but QUB is a good university, very friendly and a lovely main campus, and Belfast is a great city, so if that helps then go for it.

Although I say that as a graduate of QUB and as a native of Belfast, so I might be somewhat biased.

I spent a depressing time in Aberdeen at the start of this year Serrland and it's truly awful. Don't do that to yourself. Belfast on the other hand is great as a city and is only getting better. Every time I'm back there its jumped massively in looks and that.

Duly noted about Aberdeen.

I've actually heard really good things about Belfast from quite a few people now. I have heard the cost of living there is really favorable compared to the rest of the UK, too.

Although, I will note with embarrassment, sometimes I struggle really real thick Norn Irish accents. Is there an accent specific to Belfast itself?

All of them grating.

Sorry Nadkor :p

The BBC has an accents archive thing you can listen to that has various recordins from different areas in Belfast. I'd look it up for you but on the phone so it's a pain

There are accents specific to different streets/areas of Belfast, but even if it seems a bit impenetrable at first most people get used to it quickly and it's no bother.

Yeah I am on my phone too. I'll definitely have a go at it once I get off work.

If everyone there has that positively dreamy James Nesbitt accent though I'll be overjoyed.

It really does look lovely. I had this preconceived notion of it as an industrial, grimy, dockside type city, but everything I have seen of it seems to shatter that.
