In my 65 years, I've learned that I don't know everything and even if I did no one would be interested. But, here goes ...

1. education. is. important. Learn something, it doesn't matter what, you'll be less boring and bored
2. save money. Believe me with the way medical science is advancing you'll be absolutely devastated to find yourself at the age of 65 without the means to buy that motorcycle you've been wanting or pay for that trip to Amsterdam or buy that bag of (medical) marijuana.
3. you'll still want sex so stay in good enough shape that you'll be allowed to participate.
4. Do stuff. Other than play games, post on NSG or sit on your butt watching TV. Life is only as interesting as you make it, so make it interesting.
5. Don't lump us real old people in with whippersnappers of 21.

stop with the "my lifes dream is impossible for me to achieve" bullshit. i see so many young people with modest dreams "i want to go to college" "id like to start my own business" who are too discouraged at 20 years old to even try to do it. if you dont even try you will never get anywhere. put in the work, go for it, and even if you dont quite make it to the heights you will still make it farther than you think you will.

Big expenditures, life later on. Work hard when your young and you can enjoy your older years. Once you are older there are expenditures that you might not expect, and having a large cushion to fall on is something you want.

Why not spend your money when you're young and enjoy doing things rather than saving it and then not being able to do some things because it turns out you've ended up with too many commitments, or that your health doesn't permit you to do those things, or that there's a worldwide financial crash that means that you can't afford to do it anyway?

I'd much rather enjoy myself while I'm young and have the energy/ability/freedom from commitments to do so than get to 65 and realise that I can't.

You need to find a balance between saving for later and enjoying yourself while you're young.

I recently quit my job and ran off to Bavaria for a month. It wasn't necessarily the most "responsible" thing to do. I might have been able to buy my own home if I had just sucked it up and stayed at the job, but honestly, I'd rather have my memories of Bavaria -- while I am still young enough to get up the friggin' mountains. I don't think climbing around Obersalzburg is going to be very practical when I am 65.

But I still put some money aside for retirement while I was working, and I still think it's important to live within your means.
