So NSG is mainly just The Young Folks, and some of them are probably about to graduate or whatever. They might want some help and things with Life, Yeah? So let's give them tips or whatever (you young folks absolutely cannot give tips, due to your lack of experience and such).

Tip the First:

- If you got bored during uni, don't do an MA/PhD. It's just the same, with even more sporadic work.

Other Oldsters, let fly with your err wisdom arrows. Like owls. Owls with bows.

Unless you want to attract their attention. Because some people love attention, even if it's just taking the piss. Which I guess is a tip, but then you've probably worked that one out already, youngsters.

In my 73 years of life, the best advice I have is to work. Work hard. Only relax on the weekends, and save your money to the best of your ability.
About myself: I was born in the Soviet Union and served in military ('64 to '82). I support the USSR, and am an active member of the Communist Party of Russian Federation.

Big expenditures, life later on. Work hard when your young and you can enjoy your older years. Once you are older there are expenditures that you might not expect, and having a large cushion to fall on is something you want.

Why not spend your money when you're young and enjoy doing things rather than saving it and then not being able to do some things because it turns out you've ended up with too many commitments, or that your health doesn't permit you to do those things, or that there's a worldwide financial crash that means that you can't afford to do it anyway?

I'd much rather enjoy myself while I'm young and have the energy/ability/freedom from commitments to do so than get to 65 and realise that I can't.

So, basically... live a monotonous life until you're too old to do some things you may have wanted to do, and then carefully spend until you die?

Who says you have to spend lots of money to enjoy life? Just because you believe in thrift does not mean you cannot have fun.

Sounds wonderful, right?

It's not so bad if you do it right. I know two people who joined the US Army right from high school, put in their 20-25 years, and are retired now, both in their mid 40s. Sucks doesn't it? :) They have lifetime pensions -- not very big, but still -- and they saved as much as they could while serving. So, now they can do what they want, within very broad limits.

No, not what I said at all. I said to have fun on the weekends, and that includes spending money. But trust me, once you get to my age you would wish you saved money for large expenses.

Well, yes.

This probably isn't the right thread for this (I don't know what is, to be fair, given that I doubt you post in the Thread Where People Post 3 Pages In About A Second Thread), but how've you been etc.?

Send me a TG or a message on Facebook if that's still a thing you do. Hope you've been alright.
