iSnack 2.0

Postby Barringtonia » Tue Sep 29, 2009 11:58 pm

Vegemite, that putrid Australian parody for the vastly superior Marmite, is moving with the times. They've created a new product and asked the great Australian public to come up with names. After 48, 000 entries, they chose the very best, one that reflected youthful aspirations and the progressive culture of today if not the intellectual depth of the scientifically-proven smaller brain of your average Aussie...

Yes people, they called it iSnack 2.0

The chief element in Vegemite's new product is cream cheese. A secondary ingredient appears to be abject failure. No one likes the name of this new yeast product. Not one bit.

Here's what Hitler thinks of the name: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-GNilv65Ew

The winning name was announced during the telecast of the AFL grand final. In an effort ''to align the new product with a younger market - and the 'cool' credentials of Apple's iPod and iPhone'' Kraft chose iSnack 2.0 from a field of 48,000.

What do you think?

For some interesting historic background, the name Vegemite was also produced in this way, through a newspaper competition in the 1920's.

That video cracked me up! Did they just take some WWII movie and paste the subtitles over it?

And iSnack 2.0 is.....hip?

I think... and I'm not certain, but I think it was first done for Ronaldo's move from MU to Real Madrid - it's taking off a scene from Downfall - since when it's been reinterpreted multiple times,

The Ronaldo version is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Pz8shkM ... re=related - you can check the variation under related videos.

And iSnack 2.0 is.....hip?

There's a suggestion it's soooo bad that it was done intentionally, though Kraft deny this and are pulling the product for renaming,

Best comment: I said do you speak-a my language, she just smiled and gave me an i-Snack 2.0 sandwich..

Also, I laughed at the bit about the "Social media expert" guy. Probably not far off the mark, that is. Heh, social media. What a joke.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LET YANKS IN CHARGE.

Fixed

Bloody Kraft, they took one of the worst names because when they first heard it sounded alright but didn't think about what it wold sound like the second time or any times after that.

The chief element in Vegemite's new product is cream cheese. A secondary ingredient appears to be abject failure. No one likes the name of this new yeast product. Not one bit.

It is a shit name

Here's what Hitler thinks of the name: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-GNilv65Ew

That's awesome better than the other ones I have seen where this scene is taken.

The winning name was announced during the telecast of the AFL grand final. In an effort ''to align the new product with a younger market - and the 'cool' credentials of Apple's iPod and iPhone'' Kraft chose iSnack 2.0 from a field of 48,000.

I think it is a shit name and now will never be able to try this new product until they change the name or it comes out of a jar where on it, it says "Name me".

Ha, again for the first time but after that boring.

I don't know why they bought out a new one anyway, had the penetration of having a jar in 9 out of 10 households dropped?

Sounds like it might actually taste OK, but that an awful, awful name.

And it appears they're changing it, in part due to possible trademark infringement issues - aside from Apple's possible trademark dilution claim, someone else already trademarked "iSnack" - oops! How'd Kraft's lawyers let that one slip? :palm:

0 jars in 1 in 10 households, 1 jar in 8 of 10, and 2 jars in 1 of 10?

Today Kraft dropped the name iSnack 2.0

they will be using the other names in an online poll and this time the Australian Public will vote online.

The 500,000 produced iSnack 2.0 jars are to be pulled off the shelves this week & will become collectors items

I think they should have called the original Vegemite arsegrease, because that is what it is.
Trust someone living in Western Australia to come up with such a lame name.
I wish they'd at least used something like cremeymite.

Just like Grumpy Smurf, I hate 'I stuff', '2.0 stuff', rebranding and vegemite.

The NRL Footy Show did some good gags of the whole Downfall thing and there is one about some Facebook or Myspace war game that got me laughing, I don't recall if the Christiano Ronaldo one was the first anyways.

Here is a news article about them changing it.

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/869 ... snack-name

Anyway, one of the reasons that they have bought this new product out is because of the influx of immigrants have pulled down sales and market share and so decided to bring in a this new product to appease the newcomers.

Oh yeah, true.

But It seems the amount has dropped as the new immigrants have come in they have not taken to the taste like the old immigrants and so the number of households that contain a jar of Vegemite has dropped.

Probably a vote by a small number of employees (marketing executives and a few other big bosses) of Kraft.

But no the public didn't get to vote on the issue.
