Yeah, he is. It's just that the entire US political establishment is so insanely far right it makes him look left.

Anywhere outside of America he'd be considered center/center-right.

We have a very skewed political system. It's why I, a centrist, can be called a crazy left-winger in sociology class.

Then I'm scared to find out what a super far-left candidate would be! I'm also somewhat moderate (maybe slightly right of center) and have been called a socialist by my lovable classmates on the debate team. America is weird.

You said it, not me.
And most Americans wouldn't know what socialism is if it leapt up and gnawed their asses off. News flash, America: Subsidies to private entities are NOT socialism!

Read their explanation for why he's scored that way.

Yeah, they thought he was in favor of single-payer healthcare (which he never was) and they are upset about the Infinite Detention provisions in this years NDAA and they blame him for congress refusing to close Guantanamo. They refuse to factor in his steadfast support of family planning, his reasonable immigration policy, and his support of gay marriage. Nor do they factor in his anti-austerity attitudes, etc.

They also rank Ron Paul as anywhere other than the upper-right hand corner.

That site has essentially been taken over by fringe nutters.

EDIT: Why Jill Stein isn't there, I don't know.

I don't think the Political Compass is reliable in determining whether someone is far right. However, I do concede that the US is a right wing country and centrist to moderately right of center politicians like Obama are called socialists, communists, and bleeding heart leftist college students.

You're American right-of-center, which makes you firmly on the right outside of America.

And yes, I've been called every ideology in the book. Mostly in the sociology class I took this year, which happened to be a wretched hive of Ron Paul supporters.

Woah. Though I believe I am centrist, it would appear that I might be more of centre-right, relative to the rest of the world. I can't say for sure myself, but if anything I strongly abhor socialism.

That depends, do you abhor actual socialism (i.e. worker control of the means of production) or do you abhor government intervention in the economy?

Their ranking of Ron Paul is off a ways (someone took their quiz posing as him and he should have been scored at around a +4.5 authoritarian). I'll not dispute that.
