Romney VS Obama: The Megathread

Postby The United Soviet Socialist Republic » Wed Jun 13, 2012 12:19 am

Since the USA general election is in less then three months, I decided a thread of general debate and discussion of the election between Romney and Obama was needed. So NSG? Who is your president, Romney or Obama? Me? I prefer Romney, I dont like his Free Market ideals, but slashing spending, having a conservative social policy, an interventsionist policy, I agree with him on every point but Free Market. He might even be better than John McCain. But since the thread isnt just for my opinion, what is YOUR opinion on the USA election NSG?

ModEdit by Katganistan wrote:Since there is a HUGE amount of interest in these candidates, and consequently, a HUGE number of threads, this will become the official thread of the 2012 Presidential campaign. All other threads will be locked or merged into this one, with the exception of the political analysis thread on handicapping the race.

Obama partially since conservative social policies are stupid. Also Romney's economic plans don't work nor will they ever work.
"The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I'm saying? We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders. raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did."—former Nixon domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman

Obama is a US citizen so he wins my vote, oh and he has sanity.

I'm voting for Vermin Supreme. He's the only candidate who's got a zombie defense plan, and, looking at the way things have been going the past few weeks, I'm guessing we're going to need a plan sooner rather than later. Plus, I like his "a pony for every American" idea.

My choice? Micky Mouse

No, in all seriousness, Obama. ONLY because I can't stand Mitt

Even my mother, who hates Obama, and has been a Republican most of her life, is not voting for Mitt, but instead is voting for Obama

Obama, though I dont approve of the defense budget cuts.
For example, when your son is in "the sh*t" , you want
him to have the best s equipment possible. Also, the military
provides millions of jobs and job training for those who choose
to work afterward. Instead of military cuts, we should invest in
military financial efficiency (more bang for the buck)

Other than that, IMHO, he is the best Commander and Chief
we have had in a long time.

One decade of increased spending in defense is a lot of money. What exactly is the problem with cutting our defense budget some?

It could be said that both President Obama and Mitt Romney are liars. Of course, two wrongs don't make a right, but the point of hypocrisy stands.

If I can make an observation, the term ''mendacious'' appears in both your signature and this post. Is that a word you saw and decided to use a lot to seem intelligent, or what? I'm interested to know.

There's a fairly big difference in the frequency between the two...

I would agree with that statement. I was only playing devil's advocate.

Why no Stewart Alexander? I mean, he won't win, and the fact that he won't even be on the ballot in MS means it wouldn't do any good for me to vote for him, but if I had my choice I'd still want him to win, :p

Indeed. As Madow said Romney lies about the stupid stuff.

In this age of smart phones, he is stupid enough to utter "I didn't say that!"

The United Soviet Socialist Republic wrote:... slashing spending,...

Do you really trust a Republican to slash governmental spending, given their precedents (Reagan and Bush jr)? Or do you mean they'll slash only the part you/they don't like (like education, healthcare, welfare), while increasing public subsidies for corporations, defense contracts and other military expenditure?

Also... why not Jill Stein, Risottia? *blames the FPTP*

I know Romney will make the Economy better, and I saw an ad that informed on the fact that Obama is increasing the debt by 4 million $$$ a day.

Been listening to a lot of U.S radio talk shows recently onyoutube because I have too much time on my hands at home. Michael Savage, Neal Boortz, Sean Hannity and Michelle Malkin all seem to hate Obama's guts, and Howard Stern disapproves as well. I haven't been able to really form my own opinion about Obama before, but after listening to not only the news but also both conservative and liberal media commentary, I really dislike what Obama's doing at present. In the past, I thought that Mitt Romney was just some kind of idiot who's only been successful so far because of his charisma, but after listening to commentary on radio shows instead of just watching and reading news on tv and in the paper, I'm leaning towards Romney.

...But hey, I can't even vote. I'm just a Korean guy in Melbourne who's an Australian citizen. :p
