Cherry pie most definitly. Maybe we should bring up a cake vs pie thing. Or has that already been solved?

Otherwise. Preferably the sort you can get in a pub. In a pub.

Not that I have anything against Fray Bentos, mind

If combining berries, it should be sweet and tangy. Blackberries would work nicely with baby blue berries. Mmmmm... 8-) Berries are always a good choice. Apple with cinnamon is also made of win. You've got good tastes.

Yay, thanks! Is there a difference between baby blueberries and, um... adult ... blueberries? I don't know much about blueberries except that they're blue. Or purple.

Stupid thread. Now I have to make pie.

I find that the smaller ones tend to have more flavour and when in season, much sweeter than the adult or rather, larger blueberries, which are more readily available.

Ooh, interesting.

I'm more of a crumble man myself, but a good apple and blackcurrant pie with a generous dollop of vanilla ice cream doesn't go amiss. As for the savoury selection, I'd like to represent for that health-concious promoter of Scottish stereotypes, the macaroni pie.

Who'd object to macaroni cheese dolloped into the middle of a pie casing?

Delicious with broon sauce.

I know it's hard to do a good 'traditional' crust, but so few even seem to take the time to try and do it right.

Cheesecake isn't a pie, is it? I've always considered it a cake, myself.

I'd have to go with good old apple pie.

I consider Cheesecake a pie, as every recipe I have - and I have seceral hundred - asll call for little to no flour, When cut open even the densest, most traditional baked cheesecake looks very little like a cake's interior, and all most all recepies have a crust.

I have a recipe for a Chambord cheesecake that is just heavenly. I'll post it up in the recipe thread.

Skallvia - why do you say that cheesecake is really a cake? - please see my post above, as I disagree with that notion entirely.

and the cheesecake wiki says this:

Cheesecakes are pies made from sugary cheese. Cheesecakes are generally made with soft, fresh cheeses. Other ingredients such as sugar, eggs, flour, and liquids are often mixed in as well. Typically, the filling covers a crust, which may be pastry, cookie, digestive biscuit or any similar biscuit.

There are also savory cheesecakes, often flavored with blue cheese and served as hors d'oeuvres or with accompanying salads.

Yes I know wiki isn't perfect, but that matches my understanding.

I also found this:

Cheesecake is one of the most common puddings in the world and perhaps one of the oldest involving dairy other than milk. The first recorded mention of cheesecake was during the ancient Grecian Olympic games in the occidental world. Cato the Elder wrote of cheesecake preparation in his farming manual "De Agri Cultura".

I have also heard them called tarts, custard tarts, and custards - but any sort of tart falls into the pie catagory, and those that are not baked at all have no flour in them at all to the best of my knowledge.

A custard tart has very little to do with cheesecake :S
