There is a Broccoli salad I make once in a while and always bring to summer parties. It takes forever to make, but is very simple. You chop the broccoli branches from the stalk into small bits (the stalk is not needed and can be thrown away or used for something else). You mix it with a small amount amount of vinegar (one with more taste like apple cider vinegar), bacon bits (soy-based artificial ones are okay if you are vegetarian or on a kosher/halal diet, but then you won't have the juice), the bacon juice from making the bits, grated cheese and a buttload of mayonnaise. The salad has a a distinct smell and taste from the mixing of the different ingredients

There is also a similar salad my mother makes with cooked whole-leaf spinach and bacon bits and vinegar. It's also a taste I associate with summer.

Strawberries and blackberries, for early and late summer respectively. While there's quite a bit that we eat in a vaguely seasonal fashion, those two are the ones that kind of stand out ('specially blackberries — I can remember several times going up along the cycle trail trying to not get too heavily lacerated or stung).

Strawberries in a bowl of milk, alternatively strawberries with whipped cream and maybe a tiny bit of sugar.
Grilled meats and vegetables, grilled onion rocks. Also ice cream.

Seasonal food? What?

Mostly I move towards grilling and stuff more during the summer(grilling during the winter on a charcoal grill can be hard...) and full-on barbeques(there is a BIG difference between grilling and barbequeing...), while during winter I make a lot more soups and stuff. However, the cast iron pan and olive oil shall be present - YEAR ROUND. NO ACCEPTIONS.

Argh you people... YOU PEOPLE

Calling a grill a barbeque. Do you understand the process of barbequeing? It takes HOURS. A grill takes an hour or less... Probably what you're thinking of. Barbequeing involves smoking the meat in some way, cooking it for hours(my friends and I do 5-12 hour cooks usually...), etc. It is better than grilling, but takes a much longer time. Also, the weather can ruin both.

Not really. A cold crisp glass of cider (in the sense of thatchers gold or something slgihtly less alcoholic and scrumpish) is a beer garden drink in the afternoon in the sun before town, a proper scrumpy is more in the day.

Summer here tastes like the farmer's market, fresh peaches, homemade peach ice cream made with the previous, strawberries from the garden, Humphry's sweet corn, Home Grown Tomatoes, Dari Barn, and pork tenderloins, deep fried butter, and cotton candy all served on a stick at the state fair.

Several years ago, when I was still living in Japan, my brother had a couple of black and white hogs on his little farm. I snapped a couple of photos of various farm animals to show friends and students back in Japan. If I didn't tell them, many people assumed the hogs were cattle. Pigs are all pink, dontcha know...
