No, we don't do those square ones around here, that would be blasphemous. We produce the best watermelons hands down and have no need for any kind of gimmick to get people to buy them. Not when we have people coming in from Tokyo just to get one and they are shipped throughout the country.

My daughter claims that she gets the best strawberries ever grown anywhere in Misawa. More Spring than Summer, but nevertheless.

My favorite part of summer is that cooking is so simple. Two of my favorite summer meals are:

1. Get some good Italian bread - rustic and thick sliced if possible. Brush one side of the slice with olive oil. Layer sliced tomatoes, chopped basil and sliced mozzarella cheese. Put it under the broiler until the cheese bubbles.

2. Grill a piece of fresh tuna (I season it with salt and dill) until it flakes, then flake it. Toss it, still warm, with salad greens, chopped tomatoes, grated parmesan and Italian dressing.

Was told by the husband if you shoot a deer hurry up and get it and be assertive about making sure no other hunter gets it. So she shoots and hit something by a tree. She runs over there and this guy appears and the wife immediately starts going on about this is my kill. He can cant even get a single word in. I had a client in PA, a farmer, who lost a cow that year. So, next season, he painted (non toxic) big red letters on the side off his heifers: COW.

He lost another one that year, shot right through the "O" as if the hunter (from Cleveland) had been taking target practice.

Those Ohio hunters would also drive around at night with spotlights (we all did that) and shoot at whatever looked, in the dark, like a deer (none of us did that). From their SUV, while it was moving.

They managed to hit quite a few farmhouses.

At least they found targets big enough to hit while inebriated
in the night
while moving at a high rate of speed....

It was against state law of course; they ended up being our clients. We got them a deal: Pay a big fine and do no time. The court knew that as out-of-staters they might be a flight risk but they had the deep pockets to make bail, so the judge figured he's take their money rather than risk letting them off the hook.

Salads, usually topped with chicken. A refreshing way to have dinner.

Sangria is also a good thing for summer afternoons. And I love going to our local Farmers Market for fresh veggies, eggs and pastries.
