I can keep ball away from wicket, but I wouldn't call myself a batsman. "Doughty tail-ender" at best.

I wouldn't call myself a bowler either, but certainly my sympathies lie with the bowler. Don't need a wicket keeper. Don't need stumps. Caught-and-Bowled is best. Keep it in your hand ... wave it at the sad git as he shambles off the field, dragging his bat on the ground. Bowl it, catch it, and the sad git who stood there dressed like Tweedledum waving a bit of wood ... has to walk away. Wickets, wickets, saving runs, and the bat. Bowlers win games, batters are just weeds who grow on the pitch when bowlers fail to remove them.

I won't trouble you again with my peccadillos. But I think we agree on something: the only good thing a Batsman ever does, is to get out.

I live for the day I see a batsman get hit on the pads plumb in line with the stumps, touch the ball with their bat on the rebound from the pads, get caught at silly point, step back and knocks a bail off, get run out when silly point throws at the stumps and knocks another bail off, raises a hand to defend their face but accidentally catches the ball and passes it to the keeper who stumps them.

No caught-and-bowled in there, but hey. It's not really about the bowler ... it's about batsmen getting OUT. Like in motor racing: it's all about the crashes.

Never played the game myself...not in any significant way beyond knockabouts...

Yes, because no one takes offense at being baselessly accused of anything, ever. How dare they show a modicum of fairly standard human response. Just saying, boyo. Using logical fallacies doesn't tend to earn you points around these parts in making your arguments. If we were to claim we treated all players as rule-breakers because 'they have to prove otherwise to us before we'll treat them decently', folks would be in an uproar - and rightfully so. Just to illustrate how your example there falls just a little short.

Not that I'm taking personal offense. It takes a whole lot to personally offend me. And anonymous commentary from random folks on the internet just doesn't cut it. If it did, I'd be a poor candidate for moderation.

Just a side note though, because I think you've majorly misunderstood me. I never said you treated everyone as a rule breaker by default before they prove themselves. I meant more so that most moderators treat their own behaviour as unaccountable and justified because they did it, but don't go about the same mentality towards members that weren't their friends. I don't think it's a particularly crazy or wild thought to be aware that this is widely common, personally.

Maybe you are right, and mods at Nation State are different. I'm open minded, I'm willing to accept this. But I'm just saying, I'd like to see it for myself rather than being told it is so.

Yeah, I saw what Bluth posted. I think I remember the cause of it, but either way, it hasn't had a terribly large influence on being here.

It has, however, had a large influence on the general environment and makeup of these forums.

The times we've actually had a discussion (a proper one, not like this thread) on moderator practices and rulings, they always seem to start off with promise and hope, before another moderator, often uninvolved with the start of the thread, pounces on a comment. From there on in, it devolves into snarkiness, defensiveness and sarcasm. Often from the same mods, who usually have a history of talking down to players and a generally patronising attitude.

Then it gets locked and any decent suggestions have been long buried. I don't think it is intentional, but that is the usual outcome. This generally leaves the older and more experienced players feeling a bit bitter and disregarded. I know a couple of these threads have left a sour taste in my mouth before, as any progress that could hope to be gained is often wrecked.

I'm not entirely sure what the point of this thread is supposed to be.

If it's to criticise the actions of mods and what goes on, the easiest way to do that is by a ruling-based attitude or by the GHR. We definitely need a help or suggestions box thread or something where people can just post one post suggestions like ballots.

If it's to praise the moderators, then it risks turning into a circlejerk and a counter-circlejerk.

If it's to declare neutrality, then...why?
