What do You think about Mods?

The moderators punishments are usually fair, but often times they target certain individuals. I don't think it is necessarily on purpose, but they will often times hand out punishments to persons on one side of the debate while ignoring similar violations to people on the other side. Given the fact that the mods aren't supercomputers void of emotion, I would say they do a fairly good job.

I am not in fact, as claimed, an archaeologist who teaches at a reasonably well-regarded university in the UK.

I am instead a hyper-intelligent genetically engineered hamster called Gerald.

They allow me a keyboard and an internet connection here in the lab (though running along the keyboard to pick out my words takes forever), but otherwise all this knowledge about archaeology, history, and Orthodox theology? That's just me making really good use of Wiki.

I'm getting really bored now, so if only I knew where I was - that much the fiendish scientists in the lab have managed to hide from me - I'd ask you to rescue me.

Please rescue me....

See, I was on Jolt. I remember the whole Melkor/DI bit. I know how you Mods handle criticism. If I could access JOLT still, I would.

There was also the other thread that was linked to, where the poster was even nice enough to go through and pick out bits. And everyone sort of ignored it. Because they're all too busy kissing ass.

Yeah, I saw what Bluth posted. I think I remember the cause of it, but either way, it hasn't had a terribly large influence on being here.

It has, however, had a large influence on the general environment and makeup of these forums.

The times we've actually had a discussion (a proper one, not like this thread) on moderator practices and rulings, they always seem to start off with promise and hope, before another moderator, often uninvolved with the start of the thread, pounces on a comment. From there on in, it devolves into snarkiness, defensiveness and sarcasm. Often from the same mods, who usually have a history of talking down to players and a generally patronising attitude.

Then it gets locked and any decent suggestions have been long buried. I don't think it is intentional, but that is the usual outcome. This generally leaves the older and more experienced players feeling a bit bitter and disregarded. I know a couple of these threads have left a sour taste in my mouth before, as any progress that could hope to be gained is often wrecked.

Basically corrupt and incompetent, with a couple of absolutely brilliant, wonderful, and outstanding exceptions.

It's absolutely ridiculous that the bulk of them are mods and I'm not when I would clearly do a much better job than they could.

I have half a mind to believe that you'd ban all but the most atheist of Christians.

Yeah, I think I felt the same. Being on forums other than NSG lengthened and sharpened the feeling, since a lot of the people I communicated with were "more experienced" posters that were personally invested on some level or another.

I'm personally finding it a bit harder to be invested into threads now, whether it be because the absence of certain posters, the quality of threads and discussions, or a general disinterest in topics.
