We would rescue you if it weren't for the fact that hamsters are what power our forums.

I mean, if we give you freedom, what will they think then? We might have to abandon NSG for lack of server uptime!

This has basically turned into a mod circle-jerk now.
The above post may or may not be serious.

I have had a couple disagreements with them, but I think they are necessary. Most unmoderated boards I've seen with more than a few members are fucking awful.

Even mods need to relieve sexual tension occasionally.

But aren't most of you married/in committed relationships?

Oh, God, that's scary.

The mods are probably some of the most well-adjusted members of society here on NS.

They get a secret room where they plot the downfall of those they dislike, as well as giving their friends and cronies a leg up.

And scotch.

See, I was on Jolt. I remember the whole Melkor/DI bit. I know how you Mods handle criticism. If I could access JOLT still, I would.

There was also the other thread that was linked to, where the poster was even nice enough to go through and pick out bits. And everyone sort of ignored it. Because they're all too busy kissing ass.

As if Melkor/DI was the worst thing to happen involving Moderators.

I think one of the issues was highlighted a few pages back - the inability for some moderators to distinguish between a personal attack a challenge to a ruling.

Yeah, I saw what Bluth posted. I think I remember the cause of it, but either way, it hasn't had a terribly large influence on being here.

It has, however, had a large influence on the general environment and makeup of these forums.

Basically.

The times we've actually had a discussion (a proper one, not like this thread) on moderator practices and rulings, they always seem to start off with promise and hope, before another moderator, often uninvolved with the start of the thread, pounces on a comment. From there on in, it devolves into snarkiness, defensiveness and sarcasm. Often from the same mods, who usually have a history of talking down to players and a generally patronising attitude.

Then it gets locked and any decent suggestions have been long buried. I don't think it is intentional, but that is the usual outcome. This generally leaves the older and more experienced players feeling a bit bitter and disregarded. I know a couple of these threads have left a sour taste in my mouth before, as any progress that could hope to be gained is often wrecked.

Yeah, I think I felt the same. Being on forums other than NSG lengthened and sharpened the feeling, since a lot of the people I communicated with were "more experienced" posters that were personally invested on some level or another.

I'm personally finding it a bit harder to be invested into threads now, whether it be because the absence of certain posters, the quality of threads and discussions, or a general disinterest in topics.
